Collated complete.Undated dated from copies held by the British Library and a contemporary inscription to the frontispiece of David Copperfield dated 1870.Two of the fifteen novels of renowned Victorian novelist Charles Dickens known for classics such as Oliver Twist A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. Like many of his works David Copperfield was originally published in serial form first appearing between the years of 1849 and 1850. The story follows the coming of age of the named protagonist and drawing on many of Dickens' own experiences it is often reported to be the author's favourite work. Little Dorrit was published between the years of 1855 and 1857. Dickens uses the character of Amy Dorrit to build a satirical commentary on the intertwining of debt and poverty with contemporary British status and society. In publisher's original decorative green cloth bindings. Externally smart with slight bumping and rubbing leading to a few small closed tears to the head and tail of David Copperfield and minor loss of cloth to the joints and spine tips of both volumes. Boards furnished with the odd mark the most prominent being to the rear of Little Dorrit. Internally pages 13-14 of David Copperfield very fragile one plate entirely loose but present and tipped in and tissue guard to frontispiece also delicate. Little Dorrit more firmly bound.
