‎Archive of pressbooks designed by Saul Bass‎

‎N.p.: N.p. 1965. A dazzling collection of 10 original pressbooks designed by Saul Bass documenting the majority of the famed title and ad designer's work with director Otto Preminger in the 1950s 60s and 70s. Several of the pressbooks typically defy the existing conventions of pressbook design utilizing a wild variation of size and dimension with several of the items literally molded to represent the films they represent: "Advise and Consent" is shaped like a briefcase "In Harm's Way" is designed as a dossier with a string tie "The Cardinal" as a parcel and "Bunny Lake is Missing" as a newspaper. Other key Bass designed titles include "Anatomy of a Murder" "Bonjour Tristesse" and "The Man with the Golden Arm."<br/><br/>For most of the pressbooks in this collection we have never seen another example. A fascinating example of the advertising work done by the premiere title and ad designer of the twentieth century. <br/><br/>Various sizes ranging from Very Good to Near Fine condition. <br/><br/>Complete details available on request. ‎Saville Victor director; Sally Benson screenwriter; Humphrey Slater novel; Robert Taylor Elizabeth Taylor starring‎

‎Conspirator Original screenplay for the 1949 film‎

‎Culver City CA: MGM 1948. Composite script for the 1949 film. With holograph pencil annotations to the front wrapper. Based on the 1949 Red Scare novel wherein a young American newlywed learns her husband is a spy for the Soviet Union and forces him to choose between their love and his dedication to the Communist cause. Elizabeth Taylor's first adult role and one that many of the film's detractors argued was too mature for the then-sixteen year-old star who played opposite a 37 year-old Robert Taylor. The film's release was initially delayed due to MGM's fear that it would cause diplomatic problems with the Soviet bloc and indeed "Conspirator" was banned outright in Finland and New Delhi India for similar reasons. Set and shot on location in London and Wales. ‎Rackety Rax Original screenplay for the 1932 film‎

‎Los Angeles: Fox Film Corporation 1932. Final Shooting script for the 1932 pre-Code film. A comedy with angles on sports gangsters and higher education that demonstrates the timelessness of the interdependence of college football and the continued ability for a university to exist. Victor McLaglen plays hulking gangster Knucks McGloin who founds a school called Canarsie College. Canarsie being a real neighborhood in New York City that produced more than its share of gangsters. Knucks doesn't really care about higher education: Canarsie College was created only so that Knucks would be able to control a collegiate football team which in turn would be a vehicle for his gambling activities. By organizing the bookie action on Canarsie's football matches Knucks makes enough money to offset the expense of the college.
