"The Lady and the Monster": Shooting script for the 1944 film. The first of three adaptations of Curt Siodmak's classic 1942 novel in which an honest hard-working scientist preserves a dead man's brain only to be remote-controlled by it. Shot by the legendary John Alton at the very peak of his work in the mid-1940s. Yellow front studio wrapper noted as SHOOTING SCRIPT at the top right dated October 13 1943 a penciled notation of the working title "The Lady and the Monster" just below the printed title noted as production No. 1194 and with credits for associate producer George Sherman and Republic Studios at the bottom. Two-page cast of characters with the actors' names added in ribbon copy type just below the character names. Title page present with credits for director Sherman and novelist Siodmak. 94 leaves mimeograph duplication with blue yellow green and pink revision pages leaves dated variously between 10/18/43 and 11/8/43. Pages and wrapper about Near Fine. "The Day the Earth Caught Fire": An early and apparently abandoned draft by director Val Guest to film his screen story for Pax Films as a five-part British serial. Guest ultimately directed the story as a feature-length movie for Pax one of the most understated and intelligent science fiction films ever made. Light green wrappers both front and rear wrappers present. The front wrapper reads: "A Five Part Serialisation of / THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE / A Val Guest Production." Just below in holograph ink and in what we would assume is Guest's hand is written "Dedicated to Brian Aldiss." We think it likely that the script was gifted to the very connected Ackerman by Guest though the provenance beyond Ackerman's ownership is unknown. 41 pages divided into five parts each beginning with a two-color memo on PAX stationery describing what will happen in the following section. She remained a widow and devoted herself to the duties that devolved upon her through her great inheritance. Through her own family and her husband's became one of the wealthiest women in England living mainly in Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight which she owned. On her deathbed in 1293 the Lady Isabella executed a deed of sale of the lordship of the Isle of Wight and some of her other estates to King Edward I for the sum of 6000 marks. This deed was afterwards contested unsuccessfully in the Courts in Edward II's reign in a transaction that has ever since been considered questionable.' Revised White script for the 1939 film seen here with the title "I Robbed a Bank" which has been stricken through on the title page. <br/><br/>A gang attempts a bank robbery only to find that one of the gang member's sisters works there. The gang abducts her and a truck driver while attempting their getaway and the hostages must secretly try to help the cops find the fugitives. <br/><br/>Written by well loved humorist S.J. New York: Grove Press 1969. Collection of six vintage studio still photographs from the 1969 US release of the 1967 Swedish film. Vilgot Sjoman's controversial erotic drama utilizing both dramatic and documentary filmmaking techniques stars Sjoman's then lover actress Lena Nyman as a young theater student examining the social and political mores of 1960s Sweden and her own sexuality. Parallel is the plot of the actors and filmmakers reacting as themselves to the film they are in the process of making. Seized by customs upon entry to the US and banned from numerous US cities for sexually explicit scenes it was found in 1969 not to be obscene by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit opening the door to more frank and explicit subject matter in American film. The companion to Sjoman's 1968 film "I Am Curious Blue" which was initially intended to be combined with "I Am Curious Yellow" as one three and a half hour film. 8 x 10 inches. Beverly Hills CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM 1924. Vintage publicity photograph for the 1924 film showing star John Gilbert relaxing with a book at his home. With a mimeo snipe on the verso. Based on the 1914 Russian play by Leonid Andreyev first published in English in 1922. The first film put into production under the newly formed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the first to feature Leo the Lion although it was not the first film released by the studio. The second film directed by Sjostrom known as "the father of Swedish cinema" after his move to Hollywood at the behest of Louis B.
