Beverly Hills CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM 1933. Draft script for the 1934 film. The second Tarzan film to star Johnny Weissmuller with Jane famously portrayed by Maureen O'Sullivan. One of the best Tarzan films and a landmark film in the history of film censorship. A big budget followup to MGM's first Tarzan film "Tarzan and His Mate" featured a lengthy balletic swimming scene between Tarzan and a nude Jane with Olympic swimmer Josephine McKim doubling for Maureen O'Sullivan one of the first completely nude scenes in a Hollywood film. The scene along with the occasionally breast and buttocks revealing costume worn by O'Sullivan in other scenes ran afoul of newly appointed Production Code Administration head Joseph Breen who was determined to more strictly enforce decency standards than his predecessor the Code's namesake Will Hays. The film was censored and changes were ordered by Breen. MGM appealed the decision to the Association of Motion Picture Producers but despite the vigorous objections by Louis B. Mayer and Irving Thalberg it became the first film to lose such an appeal. In total eleven minutes were cut from the film including the swimming scene making it one of the first films affected by the new more censorious PCA and one that sits clearly on the line demarcating the pre-Code and Code Enforcement eras. In 1986 Ted Turner had the film restored to its original 116 minute version and it is that version that is available for home viewing today. A story set in Africa shot on location in Silver Springs Florida and various locations in California. Pale blue titled wrappers rubber-stamped production No. 1921 and VAULT COPY dated July 8 1933. North America 1936. 1936. Fine. - A 9-3/8 inch high by 7-3/8 inch wide softly hued original matte finish photograph of John Gielgud as Hamlet. The classic image portrays the actor in profile from the hips up seated with his left hand holding his great black cloak draped over the arm of the chair. A tall white collar with a brooch above a decoratively buttoned dark tunic completes the character's costume. Gielgud gazes intently to the side his right hand resting in his lap. Signed "John Gielgud / Hamlet. 1936." at center left of the portrait. There is but the faintest impression from the tip of a paper clip at top left else a fine powerful signed photograph. <p>The great British actor Sir John Gielgud 1904-2000 dominated the British stage for much of the 20th century as both an actor and director. Washington DC: Government Printing Office 1891. Original Department of the Interior Monograph. Leather bound. 438pp. Folio 29.5 cm Full light brown leather with only partially remaining gilt stamped title labels on the spine and decorative borders on the covers. Good. Ex-library with a single library label on the front pastedown. The extremities are rubbed and there are a handful of small dark stains on the spine. There are a couple of very long thin stains on the covers as well. The longer stain measures 10 inches long. There are several small scrapes in the leather of the front cover there is a short chip in the leather at the head of the spine and there is a 1/2 inch crack in the leather at the foot of the spine along the front joint. The underlying boards are exposed at the corners. The title page has been professionally tipped in. The fore edges of the pages at the very beginning and end of the text are brittle and chipped. There is a 1 inch long closed tear in the fore edge margin of the front flyleaf. The text block is cracked multiple times however the book is still very sturdy. Missing plate XI plate XIV and plate XXIII. With the map laid in at the rear in very good condition. There are multiple small chips and closed tears along the edges and folds the longest closed tear measuring 4" long. Flake 3564a. This item may require extra shipping charges due to weight. Gilbert worked primarily in Utah for Wheeler and Powell where he studied the geomorphology stratigraphy and structural geology of the Great Basin region. He observed two types of mountain building--fault-block uplift and laccolith doming. He is also credited with naming ancient Lake Bonneville whose raised shorelines he used to demonstrate crustal isostasy. Featuring Jean Gabin dancing gaily in pub with costar Doll two photos of Gabin kicking a ball and in a manila envelope addressed to "M. de La Maziere and images of costar Cowl smoking a cigarette. Several photos are credited to photographer Dole on the recto with mimeograph numbers on the verso and nearly all with brief numerical annotations in holograph pencil on the verso. Housed in a vintage Ilford photo paper box with French title in holograph ink on the lid. <br/><br/>Gabin plays a sophisticated tramp who lives during summer in an abandoned construction site. As winter draws near he devises a plan that will surely have him incarcerated and thus in warmer climates. To do so he chooses a bar to demolish but the crime only lands him a week in jail. Freedom proves too chilling and he vows to return. <br/><br/>Grangier worked with Gabin on several films notably "The Night Affair" 1958 "The Counterfeiters of Paris" 1961 "Speaking of Murder" 1957 and "Maigret Sees Red" 1963 as did photographer Dole who was consistent if anything a regular fixture in films by Denys de La Patelliere Jean Delannoy. Christian de La Maziere was a journalist and member of the Charlemagne Division of the Waffen SS and was featured in Marcel Ophuls' 1969 documentary "The Sorrow and the Pity" discussing his role in WWII. He also worked for the fascist newspaper "Le Pays Libre" earlier and in 1974 he wrote "The Captive Dreamer." His involvement at Vichy and the Waffen SS was pardoned before his career in press and film relations and he garnered brief postwar celebrity.<br/><br/>Photos range from 3.5 x 5 inches to 12 x 15.5 inches.
