Format is approximately 11 inches by 15 inches. 128 pages plus illustrated covers. Illustrations some in color. Map. Cover has wear and soiling. The Los Angeles Times abbreviated as LA Times is a daily newspaper that started publishing in Los Angeles in 1881. Based in the LA-adjacent suburb of El Segundo since 2018 it is the sixth-largest newspaper by circulation in the United States. The publication has won more than 40 Pulitzer Prizes. It is owned by Patrick Soon-Shiong and published by the Times Mirror Company. In the 19th century the paper developed a reputation for civic boosterism and opposition to labor unions the latter of which led to the bombing of its headquarters in 1910. The paper's profile grew substantially in the 1960s under publisher Otis Chandler who adopted a more national focus. The paper moved out of its historic downtown headquarters to a facility in El Segundo near Los Angeles International Airport in July 2018. The Gulf War was a 1990-1991 armed campaign waged by a 35-country military coalition in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Spearheaded by the United States the coalition's efforts against Iraq were carried out in two key phases: Operation Desert Shield which marked the military buildup from August 1990 to January 1991; and Operation Desert Storm which began with the aerial bombing campaign against Iraq on 17 January 1991 and came to a close with the American-led Liberation of Kuwait on 28 February 1991. The war is also known under other names such as the Persian Gulf War First Gulf War Kuwait War First Iraq War or Iraq War before the term "Iraq War" became identified instead with the 2003 Iraq War also referred to in the U.S. as "Operation Iraqi Freedom". The war was named "the mother of all battles by Iraqi officials. Acting on the Carter Doctrine policy and out of fear the Iraqi Army could launch an invasion of Saudi Arabia US President George H. W. Bush quickly announced that the US would launch a "wholly defensive" mission to prevent Iraq from invading Saudi Arabia under the codename Operation Desert Shield. The operation began on 7 August 1990 when US troops were sent to Saudi Arabia due also to the request of its monarch King Fahd who had earlier called for US military assistance.69 This "wholly defensive" doctrine was quickly abandoned when on 8 August Iraq declared Kuwait to be Iraq's 19th province and Saddam named his cousin Ali Hassan Al-Majid as its military-governor. A series of UN Security Council resolutions and Arab League resolutions were passed regarding Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Resolution 678 passed on 29 November 1990 gave Iraq a withdrawal deadline until 15 January 1991 and authorized "all necessary means to uphold and implement Resolution 660" and a diplomatic formulation authorizing the use of force if Iraq failed to comply. Coalition members included Argentina Australia Bahrain Bangladesh Belgium Canada Czechoslovakia Denmark Egypt France Greece Honduras Hungary Italy Kuwait Malaysia Morocco Netherlands New Zealand Niger Norway Oman Pakistan Philippines Poland Portugal Qatar Romania Saudi Arabia Senegal South Korea Spain Sweden Syria Turkey United Arab Emirates United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America. Germany and Japan provided financial assistance and donated military hardware although they did not send direct military assistance. The war was heavily televised. For the first time people all over the world watched live pictures of missiles hitting their targets and fighters departing from aircraft carriers. Allied forces were keen to demonstrate their weapons' accuracy. Los Angeles Times paperback‎

‎Resistance and Revenge 1939-1949‎

‎159 pages. Black and white illustrations. "Author is a holocaust survivor who, when this book was written, lived in Montreal. He escaped from Vilna and after the second world war spent several years in West Germany where he directed the War Crimes Section of the Legal Department of the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in Munich. For three years after the war he devoted all his energies to the prosecution of Nazi accomplices throughout Europe. His departure from Germany in 1949 marked the end of almost 10 years during which he had been an inmate of Nazi ghettos, a fugitive hiding out in the Polish countryside, an intelligence officer in a Russian-commanded partisan brigade, an unwilling member of the Soviet Secret Police, a refugee in West Germany, and finally a hunter of Nazi war criminals." - paraphrased from pages 20-21. Years after its publication, this book is being used to argue that the author lied about his wartime conduct to gain entry to Canada. Clean and unmarked with light wear. Sound copy. Book‎

‎Beverly Hills CA: United Artists 1961. Vintage oversize double weight borderless still photograph from the 1961 film. Shot struck and mounted by the film's still photographer Bob Willoughby with his ASMP rubber stamp on the verso. Full provenance available.

Based on Lillian Hellman's 1934 play about two teachers at an all-girls boarding school accused of being in a lesbian relationship by one of the students ruining the careers and personal lives of both. The play was previously adapted by William Wyler in 1936 as "These Three" though the Production Code forced Hellman to change the substance of the rumor from homosexuality to infidelity. The 1961 version restores the content of the child's lie and is overall incredibly faithful to the stage play.
