With the stamp of a Canadian film distributor on the verso and one with a manuscript ink annotation on the bottom right corner of the recto noting production No. 77-705. <br /> <br /> Loosely based on Edgar Allen Poe's 1845 story "The System of Doctor Tarra and Professor Fether." In nineteenth century France the mentally unstable head doctor of a sanatorium secretly uses the facility's dungeon as a torture chamber for his patients. A Mexican production shot in Mexico City with a primarily Mexican cast and crew but filmed in English and subsequently dubbed into Spanish for Mexican release. They hire a man to drive explosives for the burglary but when the police stop him they assume he is part of an assassination attempt. Winner of one Academy Award for Peter Ustinov as Best Actor. <br /> <br /> Set in Istanbul shot on location in Istanbul Turkey Kavala Greece Paris France and Hauts-de-Seine France. <br /> <br /> Two photographs 10 x 8 inches one photograph 7 x 9 inches. The story's events surround the death of Martin Luther King framed as a remake of "The Informer" John Ford 1935 in turn based on the 1925 proletarian novel by Liam O'Flaherty. <br /> <br /> Shot on location in Cleveland the first US film for noted director Jules Dassin who had left the US at the height of the McCarthy hearings in nearly two decades. <br /> <br /> 26.75 x 41 inches. Thieves' Highway Post-production script for the 1949 film

Brief notation in holograph ink on the front wrapper and in pencil on the verso of the last page. <br/><br/>Based on the novel "Thieves' Market" by A.I. Bezzerides who also wrote the screenplay. <br/><br/>Based on Bezzerides' own experiences as a truck driver the author's adaptation of his own novel takes a direct aim at the fruit industry of the West coast resulting in essential proletarian literature. The novel's rich California scenery comes through beautifully in Dassin's visually stunning film reminiscent of the director's earlier noirs "Brute Force" in 1947 and "The Naked City" in 1948 Silver et al. <br/><br/>Blue studio wrappers dated August 19 1949 noting footage of 8437 feet.
