Hace m�s de cinco siglos hubo un Papa sometido al infierno de las calumnias y las conjuras incluso por sus propios cardenales. Llevaba tres a�os al frente de la Iglesia cuando todav�a se vio obligado a escribir: "Pequ� en mi juventud lo reconozco �pero creedme ahora!" Decidi� entonces escribir su propia vida en un desesperado intento de que las futuras generaciones conocieran la verdad. El resultado fue un manuscrito de valor documental incalculable: la �nica autobiograf�a conocida de un Romano Pont�fice. Pero el brazo de quienes le atacaron era largo. La autobiograf�a jam�s se public� completa y cuando se imprime finalmente un siglo m�s tarde aparece atribuida a un copista y no al Papa. Este volumen rectifica tan enorme error y rescata el texto �ntegro de aquel documento. Por primera vez el gran p�blico tiene oportunidad de contemplar la sobrecogedora denuncia del Papa. P�o II 1458-1464 que �ste fue el Pont�fice describe con realismo y crudeza los pasos de su espectacular carrera eclesi�stica: en diez a�os pasar�a de laico a Papa. El cap�tulo que dedica por ejemplo al c�nclave en que fue elegido Pont�fice "Cuatro d�as de Agosto" creemos que no tiene paralelo en la historia eclesi�stica.
