‎Tristan et Iseut.‎

‎Paris Philippe Lebaud / Club du Livre / Coll. ''Gravure contemporaine'' 1977. ''Gravure contemporaine'', (1977). Un fort vol. au format in-4 (332 x 262 mm) de unknown‎

‎The English Version of the Polyglot Bible containing the Old and New Testaments. [With Cruden's Concordance and Four Thousand Short Scripture Questions with Answers]. AGSTER'S TEACHER'S BIBLE: LARGE EDITION IN PUBLISHER'S ROAN PORTFOLIO‎

‎8vo., on India paper, with 9 coloured engraved maps on 6 and a double-page chronological chart; attractively bound in publisher's black roan portfolio with drop sides all round, covers framed and blocked in blind and blocked and lettered in gilt, back with five raised bands ruled in blind, second compartment lettered in gilt 'Bagster's Teacher's Bible', gilt edges, black endpapers, portfolio mildly scuffed and rubbed at extremities else a remarkably well-preserved, bright, clean copy. Bagster's Teacher's Bible is a facsimile reprint, with larger types, of the English Version of Bagster's Polyglot Bible first published in 1817 and which made Bagster's name. It corresponds page for page, and line for line, with the two well-known Pocket Editions. The text is that of the Authorized Version, printed in double column with the references in a third central column in Bagster style. In addition to the Old and New Testaments, this edition contains Cruden's Concordance, Chronology, Tables of Weights & Measures, Tabular Harmony, Comparative View of Quotations, and a set of maps engraved and coloured expressly for this edition. A particular feature is the set of Four Thousand Short Scripture Question with Answers, designed expressly for the use of teachers. The Teacher's Bible is an edition uncommon at best, and scarce indeed in this condition with wholly unrestored portfolio in unusually sound state. See Darlow & Moule 1081.‎

A characteristic gathering of the three texts the Bible being the Geneva-Tonson-Junius version in an edition that is a very close reprint of Barker's 1607 edition. The general engraved title is undated and the sectional full title-page for the NT is dated 1611 but the printer's colophon at the end is dated 1612. The text of the Apocrypha is included as a part of the contiguous whole. The edition of the Genealogies which is here bound prior to the Bible is one of the several folio printings attributed to Beale that are partially sorted as to minute variants in STC and ESTC; however this example does not conform to the variants in ESTC in regard to the line-breaks in the side note on A1V. The present edition of the Sternhold and Hopkins Psalms includes some music settings. This is among the last folio London printings of the Geneva text the standard text of 16th century Protestantism and the text referenced by Shakespeare Donne Bunyan et al. The first edition of the NT was printed in Geneva in 1557 and was first printed in England in 1575-6. ESTC S1189; S101955; and S122901. Herbert 312. A well preserved copy of an early 17th century Geneva Bible. "There are many editions bearing this date 1599 which while agreeing closely are yet distinct. No doubt a certain number of copies were originally issued in a mixed state. The nominal date 1599 is probably untrue in almost every case; they were apparently published at different times in Amsterdam and Dort and adopted by Barker. The phenomena of the various editions described under the year 1599 and the very similar edition of 1633 constitute one of the most curious problems of bibliography of the English Bible." see Herbert No. 253 / Lea Wilson's No. 2 / Darlow & Moule No. 192 / STC 2179 . . ‎Bible English. Authorized ie. King James Version 1611 i. e.‎

‎A Collection of 7 New Testament leaves from the so-called King James Bible 1611 The Holy Bible: conteyning the Old Testament and the New. Newly Translated out of the Originall Tongues: 3 John Jude Revelations‎

‎London: Robert Barker 1611. First. Folio. 7 leaves: Z3 Z5 Z6 Aa1 Aa2 Aa3 Aa4. Contents: 3 John 1:7-14 Epistles of Jude complete book; Revelations Chapter 2:21 through Chapter 18:12. Margins frays soiling old repairs portions of texts defective. With faults and priced accordingly. Highly interesting nearly consecutive set of seven leaves from the New Testament of the true first edition of the 1611 King James Bible including almost 16 Chapters from Revelations. The translation into English of the King James or "Authorized" Version of the Bible is widely considered a towering achievement in English literature a rare combination of textual beauty and painstaking scholarship created by the most unlikely of all sources namely: a committee. The KJV itself has been called "the most influential version of the most influential book in the world in what is now its most influential language" "the most important book in English religion and culture" and "the most celebrated book in the English-speaking world." The bibliographic complexities of the Great "He" Bible and the Great "She" Bible are legendary but the most authoritative analysis has been undertaken by David Norton in his unsurpassed "Textual History of the King James Bible" Cambridge University Press 2004 - see especially Appendix 2 in which all the distinguishing points are clearly enumerated and rendering all previous scholarship obsolete and irrelevant. Our leaves are from the TRUE FIRST edition of 1611 not the later editions that are ubiquitous on the market and are invariably wrongly described. Provenance: From the collection of distinguished San Antonio bookseller Frank Rosengren and from thence to his widow Florence who managed the Rosengren bookstore until 1987 and from thence to her daughter-in-law Camille. ‎BIBLE KING JAMES VERSION‎

‎The holy Bible conteyning the old testament and the new: newly translated out of the originall tongues‎

‎London: Robert Barker 1611. A3 bound backwards. Title page the 2 leaves of the engraved map and the final 2 leaves in excellent facsimile. Additional title page from a later edition bound in behind the facsimile. Gothic and Roman types text double column with 59 lines per column and printed within woodcut rule-border calendar and almanac printed in red and black. General title-page within engraved border by Christian Boel and section title for the New Testament dated 1611 within woodcut border. Full-sheet engraved map of the Holy Land by John Speed after Dr John More 17 leaves of genealogical tables incorporating woodcut illustrations of Adam and Eve Noah's Ark the Tower of Babel and other Biblical subjects numerous woodcut head- and tail-pieces historiated and ornamental initials. Contemporary calf boards rebacked spine labels; some staining a few leaves with small holes or edges torn away but generally a very good copy. With a notation on the paste-down that the book was "received of William Biggs for the sum of 5 shillings . by me John Lang. Ford Warminster" dated 1747 and with a small but elaborate bookplate of William Thomas Smedley 1858-1920 the noted collector of Elizabethaniana and Bacon; his library was sold in 1924 to Henry Clay Folger and the Folger library collection today includes nearly 1500 volumes formerly owned by Smedley. First edition second issue/state called the "she" Bible because of the reading of Ruth III 15: "she went into the citie". In addition because of the small hole in C6 Matthew 26:36 it is impossible to tell whether the word Judas or Jesus is printed. The King James version of the Holy Bible is arguably the most important book ever published in English. Preparation of the Royal Version took more than 5 years and was laboriously attended to by over 50 translators and researchers. The final translations were then exchanged and reviewed reaching a final committee of six. Supervision of the printing was carried out by Miles Smith and Thomas Bilson. Although the Royal Version appropriates much from the Tyndale Coverdale Geneva and Bishops' Bibles it is unquestionably regarded as the greatest literary translation of the Bible ever produced.
