AMPLIFICATION AS GLOSS IN TWO TWELFTH-CENTURY TEXTS Robert De Boron's Joseph D'Arimathie and Renaut De Beaujeu's LI Biaus Descouneus
Appears unread. Inner cover is date-stamped, otherwise as New condition. ; Where does a literary text originate and how is it formed? This book focuses on the author as the motivating agent of the text. It is conducted with reference to two texts from the end of the twelfth century in which the material selected by the author operates as the vehicle for the central ideas. The structure and amplification of the material bring the author's intention to the fore, clarifying and enhancing the initial conception of the work. Far from being a contrived and artificial framework, fiction is defined as a craft which organizes and glosses material, creating unity through authorial perspective. ; Studies in the Humanities: Literature-Politics-Society; Vol. 59

Instructions in Filming
London: Museum Press 1967. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 5.5" X 8.75. h/b Museum Press1967. 8.75" x 5.5" 124pp. pale blue boards. Preface - There are plenty of books about film-making-but most of them I feel give too much space to technical details about equipment and far too little to the real work of filming: this of course is the turning of an idea into a picture which others can enjoy. Instructions in Filming will not go into long explanations about how to operate a cine camera and a projector because no two makes of either camera or projector are exactly the same so the maker's handbook supplied with the equipment is the best guide. You will however find information to help in the choice of equipment and a guide to its cost. Al the rest of this book is concerned with ideas. The filmmaker is first of all an artist and only secondly a technician. In the last ten years equipment has improved to such an extent that thousands of people who are not technically minded- people baffled by the laws of optics and with no interest at all in mixing their own developing solutions-can make entertaining films. Clubs and schools throughout the country as well as solo workers are making more and more good films every year not for money but for the sheer satisfaction of achievement plus the modest pride in hearing an audience applaud. I hope this book will help you to join them. Robert Bateman

Museum Press hardcover

The Man in the Glass Booth; A Play.
New York NY Grove Press: Evergreen Original 1969. Paperback First Ed Thus Second Printing. Very Good in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: light wear to extremities; mild rubbing to wrapper covers; binding square and secure; text clean. Remains close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder Book-Club or Ex-Library. 8vo. 74pp. First Edition Thus Third Printing. Trade Paperback. In 1964 the Israeli intellignece group the Mossad kidnaps Jewish businessman Arthur Goldman from his New York City apartment and accuses him of heinous war crimes. During the trial that follows this man will offer a defense that will shock you provoke you and force you the reader to become the judge of him his actions and yourself. Originally staged in NYC in the '60's the play was revised in New York City at the Cocteau Theater in 1998. This is a testament to the timeless nature of the drama. Historical references to the Pope's edict concentration camps and ethnic cleansing are repeated in recent history. Interesting metaphors are employed in the use of certain music references and references to certain paintings. The reference to Poussin's "Arcadia" bring to mind the scholarly interpretation of the painting "Here too in paradise is death." Arcadia is paradise neglected and fallen into ruins. The full title is "Et in Arcadia" which is actually meant as a riddle. Since there is no verb the reader is meant to infer the meaning. So too is the main character Arthur Goldman a riddle leaving the reader to guess at his true nature. Ultimately the reader is shocked by a surprise twist ending in the script which reveals Arthur Goldman to be someone wholly different from whom he himself was pretending to be. Often performed with the audience being the jury of the trial the audience is then forced to make a life or death decision about this man unwittingly being lead to make the wrong conclusions. The play is a well crafted dark drama. The gruesome talk of Nazi atrocities with our main character admitting to shooting a person in the nape of the neck allowed me to truly hate our main character and yet to be also fully surprised by the climatic twist. If you're into the dark and gritty buy this play. Grove Press: Evergreen Original, paperback
