Alfieri Giulia
Gioca, traccia e colora! Ediz. a colori
ill., br.

Ediz. a colori
ill., br.

Ediz. a colori
ill., br.

ALPHABET
Peter Piper's Practical Principles of Plain and Perfect Pronunciation.
London: Griffith and Farran 1856. Paperback. Very Good. Not dated circa 1856. Printed by Samuel Bentley & Co. 12mo. 32pp. Illustrated with 24 hand coloured woodcuts with verse below one page for each letter and woodcut XY & z sharing a page. Two leaves of conundrums at rear. Bound in the original yellow wrappers with a new spine; small nick to front margin; pages trimmed; there are minor marks throughout; a small nick/tear in margin else a very good copy. Originally published by John Harris in 1813 Grant & Griffith were the successors of John Harris circa 1835 later changing their name to Griffith and Farran in 1856. The British Library does have both editions; the John Harris edition having 34pp; this edition with 32pp. A writer in The London Magazine for Nov. 1829 dismissed Harriss book of Tongue Twisters arranged in alphabetical order Peter Piper's Practical Principles of Plain and Perfect Pronunciation as Degrading Trash The Oxford Companion to Childrens Literature The Alphabet refers to figures of the day; i.e. G is Gilpin & Goose Gander; Inigo Impey inspected an Indian Image veshnu. In the Conundrums section the recent marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert is mentioned dating the text after 1840 so is suspect that the conundrum section was updated in 1840 with a different type face.

Griffith and Farran paperback
