In 1756 he was appointed superior of the college of novices of Cehegín and in 1762 he was assigned to the Franciscan missions of Mexico arriving in 1765 to the convent of Santa Cruz de Querétaro from where after an orientation in situ he was assigned with fourteen other friars to the missions of the northwest of the New Spain that extended from Sinaloa to the unknowns lands of the continental north. In 1767 with the expulsion of the Jesuits from Spanish dominions by Carlos III the missions of the northeast of New Spain that San Francisco de Borja had achieved for them in the sixteenth century were abandoned and were mostly reassigned to the Franciscans by José de Gálvez Visitator General in New Spain and responsible for carrying out in said viceroyalty all the administrative political and economic reforms advocated by Carlos III and his enlightened ministers. He arrived in those parts in 1768 and between June 6 of that year and January 27 of 1769 he wrote nine letters addressed to the governor don Juan Pineda exposing him in a critical way and in the reformist spirit of the era the problems deficiencies and miseries of the indigenous population. Once at his destination he was soon named visitor and very much in the style of the Enlightenment he wrote his ideas in two reports one on April 20 1772 <i>Manifesto State of the Provinces of Sonora</i> and another date July 6 of the same year <i>News of the current state of the Missions of the Government of Sonora</i> that he presented to his superiors. It is in these writings that we can realize the advanced thinking of this cleric a clear son of the Enlightenment. Following in the footsteps of Montesinos Bartolomé de las Casas and other early detractors of the predatory action of the Spaniards in the colonies the Father of the Kings with a clairvoyance of the century of lights and a clear conscience on how to carry He carried out the evangelization and the social economic and political organization of the missions he and his brothers of order entrusted tried to apply new methods that were effective in their religious ministry and fair in dealing with the indigenous population.<br /><br /><b>Condition:</b><br /><br />Light edge wear else a very good to fine copy.
