Le premier s'ouvre sur un joli frontispice gravé figurant l'auteur d'après un portrait de Joseph Vivien gravé par Daullé. Ces lettres de Fénélon sont à dénombrer parmi ''ses oeuvres les meilleures''. Brunetière, après les avoir lu, déclara qu'il pouvait se dispenser de lire le reste des écrits de Fénélon. ''Trésor de préceptes judicieux et fins, utiles aux hommes et femmes de tous les temps'', ces lettres mettent en lumière - entre autres - toute la valeur que reconnaissait Fénélon à la Raison, à la foi et l'amour. ''Que vous serez heureux si vous apprenez ce que c'est que l'occupation de l'amour''. Aussi ''les états délicieux ou languissants de l'âme, peints de touches si vives dans les lettres spirituelles de Fénelon et de bien d'autres mystiques du temps, sont sentis par eux comme une sourde et interne conversation avec l'interlocuteur divin, avec l'ineffable consolateur caché dans l'âme''. Un fort vol. au format in-12 (170 x 103 mm) de 1 f. bl., 1 frontispice gravé n.fol., 1 carte dépliante gravée, xl - 462 pp. Reliure de l'époque de demi-basane glacée et mouchetée brune, plats jansénistes, dos à nerfs orné de filets gras à froid, doubles caissons d'encadrement dorés, fleurons dorés, semis de pointillés dorés, pièce de titre de maroquin miel, titre doré, palette dorée en tête et queue, filet doré sur les coupes.‎ ‎L'exemplaire s'ouvre sur un frontispice allégorique gravée, renferme une carte dépliante gravée des ''voyages de Télémaque'', ainsi que 12 (sur 12) jolies planches gravées (non signées). A la fois épopée et traité de morale et de politique, cette oeuvre humaniste - dont l'influence littéraire fut considérable plus de deux siècles durant - narre les pérégrinations du héros éponyme au travers un voyage le menant dans plusieurs états de l'Antiquité. A parution, on y vit une critique à peine voilée contre l'autorité du gouvernement de Louis XIV, sa politique extérieure pour le moins belliqueuse et sa politique économique mercantiliste. Louis XIV ordonna que cesse l'impression de l'ouvrage et en disgracia l'auteur ; lequel fut alors banni de la cour. Angles émoussés. Petit manque superficiel en marge de chacun des plats. Dos présentant un éclat légèrement altéré. Petite déchirure en marge de la carte. Quelques rousseurs ou petites tâches éparses dans le corps d'ouvrage.
