Magre Maurice
Melusine
Encino: Black Coat Press 2018. Trade paperback New. Mike Hoffman. Encino: Black Coat Press: 2018. Trade paperback New 303 pp. Cover artwork by: Mike Hoffman "This volume is the eleventh of a series of twelve dedicated to Magre's works. Melusine 1941 mingles a number of mini-essays and prose-poems with a continuing first-person narrative that although clearly fictitious and exceedingly rich in the fantastic is proffered by an unnamed protagonist who is clearly an alter ego of the author. Mlusine might be Magre's swan song and its delicate imaginative flourishes the last gasps of his prolific and fecund imagination. His revision of the classic legend of Mlusine of Lusignan is ingenious and the visionary sequences depicting the protagonist's communications with nature are vividly effective and demonstrate that Magre's poetic gifts had not waned." The Albigensian Treasure
Encino: Black Coat Press 2017. Trade paperback New. Mike Hoffman. Encino: Black Coat Press: 2017. Trade paperback New 278 pp. Cover artwork by: Mike Hoffman "This volume is the ninth of a series of twelve dedicated to Magre's works. In The Albigensian Treasure 1938 we follow the adventures of Michel de Bramevaque who launched himself in search of the Holy Grail after receiving a supernatural injunction. Magre with elegant simplicity leads us through a series of adventures and trials on the quest for the sacred artifact hidden by his Albigensian ancestors in the Languedoc soil. Long considered as one of the best works of esoteric literature of 20th century The Albigensian Treasure rooted in the Cathar religion is rich in spirituality demonstrating that behind the visible face of things often hides another much more subtle. This is a superb novel of fantastic realism steeped in a dark and tormented atmosphere. The book also includes a collection of similarly-themed vignettes from La Beaut invisible 1937." The Mystery of the Tiger
Encino: Black Coat Press 2017. Trade paperback New. Tanya Hall. Encino: Black Coat Press: 2017. Trade paperback New 272 pp. Cover artwork by: Tanya Hall "This volume the fourth of a series of twelve dedicated to Magre's works offers the novella The Story of Confucius and the novel The Mystery of the Tiger both 1927. The former is a clever exercise in deadly serious comedy which details the rise and fall of the famous Chinese philosopher. In the latter an obsessed zoo-keeper and animal tamer goes into the Indonesian jungle to experience a mystic transformation that highlights the relationship between humans and animals and between humans and their own animality. The Mystery of the Tiger offers one of the most obvious examples of Magre's stubborn defiance of convention. As its protagonist gradually slides from unrepentant unpleasantness into a kind of remorseful divine madness it shows itself for the truly remarkable work it is." This is a print-on-demand title.
