‎BUtterfield 8 Original photograph from the 1960 film‎

‎N.p.: Afton-Linebrook 1960. Vintage studio still photograph from the 1960 film.

What "Valley of the Dolls" is to drugs "BUtterfield 8" is to sex. Extremely watchable trash a big-budget film with lowdown agenda and the last film in which Elizabeth Taylor who won an Oscar for her performance could have been accurately described as young and radiant bravely taking on an unsympathetic role as a high-end call girl who is beginning to run into problems. Something of an American answer to De Sica's "Madame De." with the object in question being a fur coat rather than a pair of earrings.

Shot on location in New York.

8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus with extensive annotations to the verso in red felt-tipped ink blue ink and holograph graphite.

Complete collation details available on request. ‎Erskine Caldwell novel; Anthony Mann director; Philip Yordan Ben Maddow screenwriters; Robert Ryan Aldo Ray Buddy Hackett Ja‎

‎God's Little Acre Two original photographs from the 1958 film‎

‎Beverly Hills CA: United Artists 1958. Two vintage oversize borderless double weight reference studio still photographs from the 1958 film.

Just as Caldwell's 1933 novel was met with scrutiny and censorship upon its publication the film adaptation twenty-five years later met with similar disapproval. Scenes involving Tina Louise and actress Fay Spain were perceived as obscene the film was said to call marital fidelity into question and even worse: the film portrayed a popular uprising of mill workers. Many theaters either banned the film entirely or admitted only movie-goers ages 18 and up.

Though written by Ben Maddow a blacklisted radical leftist documentary and poetry writer screenwriting for the film was attributed to Philip Yordan a writer often credited for scripts written by blacklisted authors. Tina Louise won a Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer for the film her debut role.

Set in the American South shot on location in California.

8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus with holograph ink and graphite annotations to the verso.

Complete collation details available on request. United Artists unknown books‎

‎Der blaue Engel The Blue Angel Original poster for the 1930 film‎

‎Germany: Atlas Films 1965. Original German A1 poster for a 1965 re-release of the 1930 German film.

From the collection of noted film historian Amos Vogel. Full provenance available.

Marlene Dietrich became an immediate international star on the strength of her performance as the temptress Lola Frohlich in Josef von Sternberg's classic tale of love and obsession. Professor Immanuel Rath Emil Jannings is a strict and humorless schoolmaster who is shocked when he discovers the boys in his class have been spending their time at a sleazy cabaret called The Blue Angel where an entertainer named Lola Dietrich keeps the men in thrall and sells suggestive postcards of herself. "The Blue Angel" was shot in both German and English language versions; the German is preferable as most of the cast were obviously more expert in that tongue. Dietrich introduced what would become her theme song "Falling In Love Again" in this film.

23 x 33 inches folded. Several short tears at the edges light rubbing. Very Good plus overall.
