Volume in 12° legato in mezza pergamena, titolo al tassello al dorso, sguardie, frontespizio con marca tipografica, 26 carte non numerate (carta della Sorga, luogo dove nacque Laura e dove il Petrarca s'innamorò, illustrazione a doppia pagina; silografia a piena pagina col ritratto di Laura e del Petrarca raffigurati in uno splendido vaso con al piede cartiglio), 400 pp. per le Rime i Trionfi e le Rime rifiutate (i Trionfi con proprio frontespizio), frontespizio delle "annotationi di Giulio Camillo" per 63 carte comprensive degl'indici, al verso dell'ultima colophon con marca tipografica, sei illustrazioni silografiche a mezza pagina per i Trionfi. Il volume, col margine superiore un poco corto, è in bello stato. Sono da segnalare alcune macchie d'inchiostro su poche pagine ed un più preciso e reiterato atto di censura alle pagine 128 e 129 in cui i sonetti parrebbe volessero essere cancellati. I tratti di pennino affaticano ma non impediscono la lettura. In definitiva, una bella cinquecentina giolitiana illustrata, rara a reperirsi.

(mm. 153x100), p. vitellino ottocentesco, cornice a secco e filetto oro ai piatti, dorso a cordoni con decoraz. e tit. oro su due tasselli, 208 cc.num., testo in caratteri tondi; marca tipografica xilografata al frontespizio (due draghi nuotano affiancati, sullo sfondo navi sul mare). Al fine: “In Vinegia per Comin de Trino de Monferrato a instantia de Vicenzo Vaugris & Zuane di Francesij Compagni ne l’anno de Signore MDXXXXI”. L’opera è introdotta da “Vita e costumi del Poeta - Origine di Madonna Laura”; seguono “Divisione de soneti e de le canzoni del Petrarcha in tre parti - Alessandro Vellutello sopra i Triomphi del Petrarcha (del Triompho d’Amore, di Castità, di Morte, di Fama, del Tempo e di Divinità). In 4° (20x14 cm); (28), 413 [i.e.415] cc. Legatura seicentesca di recupero in piena pergamena montata nella prima metà dell'ottocento, come la fascetta in pelle al dorso con titolo, autore e fregi in oro impressi al dorso. Tagli gialli. Frontespizio racchiuso entro cornice xilografica, con grande marca dello stampatore raffigurante la Fama, donna alata con un piede sul globo che suona una tromba ed il motto "Io volo al ciel per riposarmi in Dio " (tale marca fu utilizzata in quegli anni dall'Accademia Veneta e da Jacopo Vidali, che nel 1574 aveva stampato l'edizione del Petrarca a cui questo esemplare si rifà). Antiche firme di appartenenza al frontespizio, in parte anticamente cancellate ma ancora leggibili che identificano l'esemplare come appartenuto a Bartolomeo de Rossi come attesta anche la scritta "Ad usum de Rossi". Scrive il Brunet: "Dans cette derniere il manque les trois sonnets contre la cour de Rome, et aussi un 4 sonnet: l'"Avara Babilonia". C'est d'ailleurs une copie exacte de l'edition de 1574". Iniziali xilografiche, qualche testatina e finalino. C. 4v ritratto di Petrarca e Laura entro cuore; altre sei xilografie n.t. che illustrano i Trionfi. Due forellini al margine esterno bianco del frontespizio e per il resto esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Non comune edizione di questo celeberrimo commento all'opera del Petrarca ad opera di Giovanni Andrea Gesualdo (Traetto 1496 - ?), poeta volgare che godette di molta fortuna ed è considerato uno dei più ricchi commenti del Cinquecento al Canzoniere: in particolare il lavoro del Gesualdo non si limitò solo al commento critico del testo poetico ma anche all'esposizione di problemi di carattere filosofico e linguistico (si vedano i numerosi richiami lessicali all'etimologia greca). il volume è diviso in tre sezioni: le prime due (1 - 276 e 276 - 346) dedicate al Canzoniere petrarchesco, la terza (346 - 413) dedicata ai Trionfi. Questa edizioni riprende la divisione canonica effettuata dal Bembo per Manuzio. All'interno dei "I Trionfi" si trovano 5 bellissime incisioni xilografiche che riprendono il tema del testo poetico stampato in un bel carattere corsivo, contornato dal commento dell'autore in un carattere più minuto. LE RIME DEL PETRARCA
Due volumi in folio (cm. 34,5 x 25), legati in pelle, titoli al tassello al dorso, sguardie decorate, tavola d'antiporta, frontespizi, prefazione, biografia del Petrarca, LIX (1) 357 (3) pp.; (6) 444 (6) pp., 9 splendide tavole f.t. incise in acciaio ed all'acquaforte da Morghen, Gandolfi, Lose ed altri mastri incisori. L'opera che si presenta è un fiore all'occhiello per i bibliofili, si tratta della splendida e correttissima edizione delle Rime del Petrarca, frutto dello studio e delle attentissime cure del celebre professore Antonio Marsand, la stesura della quale cominciò il 27 di ottobre del 1818 e terminò il 22 febbraio 1820 ed il mese di aprile dello stesso anno fù pubblicata (come citato al colophon). Marsand, appassionato cultore del Petrarca, realizzò un’edizione filologica superiore alle precedenti, in un’epoca in cui il codice autografo contenente la redazione definitiva delle Rime non era ancora stato ritrovato. Dopo una rigorosa collazione di tutte le versioni esistenti, Marsand sottopose le lezioni di alcuni passi al giudizio dell’Accademia della Crusca e scelse un testo basato sulle edizioni più accreditate al suo tempo, avvalendosi di quelle condotte sugli autografi per eliminare le varianti (soprattutto, in particolare, l'edizione di Martino de Septem Arboribus stampata in Padova nel 1472 a cura di Valdizocco, la celebre di Aldo in Venezia 1501 colla soprintendenza di Pietro Bembo e quella di Stagnino in Venezia 1513 per studio di Marsiglio Umbro Forsempronese). Dato il carattere filologico del lavoro svolto, Marsand non aggiunse notazioni critiche ai componimenti, limitandosi ad apporre a ognuno di essi un breve cenno al contenuto e preferendo piuttosto corredare l’opera di appendici storico-bibliografiche molto precise, nonché di pregiate incisioni quali i ritratti di Laura e Petrarca, rispettivamente a opera di R. Morghen e P.M. Gandolfi (di tutte le incisioni presenti nell'opera viene spiegato il motivo della scelta e la collocazione). Fino al riconoscimento della redazione definitiva delle Rime nel codice della Biblioteca apostolica Vaticana (1886), quest’opera costituì un riferimento per le successive edizioni italiane di Petrarca, non ultime quelle di G. Leopardi (Le Rime di F. Petrarca, Milano 1826), personalmente conosciuto dal Marsand, e di G. Carducci (Rime di F. Petrarca sopra argomenti storici, morali e diversi..., Livorno 1876). Fra i giudizi favorevoli suscitati dall’opera, figurano quello dell’amico Vincenzo Monti, (in Giorn. arcadico, febbraio 1821, pp. 206-219), nonché la recensione apparsa nella Biblioteca italiana (giugno 1820, pp. 287-295) ed anche un interessante saggio intitolato "DELLA EDIZIONE LE RIME DEL PETRARCA PUBBLICATE PER OPERA E STUDIO DEL PROFESSORE MARSAND. RELAZIONE DEL PROFESSORE MENEGHELLI" dalla Tipografia della Minerva, Padova 1820 (opuscolo in 4° di 18 pp. nn.) che, data l'attinenza e l'interessante contenuto, ci pregiamo unire in omaggio. L'opera è eccezionale per completezza ed accuratezza, bel carattere tipografico, amplissimi margini, carta forte e chiara, incisioni di splendida fattura e nitidezza. Di assoluto prestigio internazionale e di notevole rarità. La si presenta perfetta, in barbe, fior di stampa.

Nella deliziosa serie dei "mignon" Barbera, piccoli vademecum del sapere molto curati tipograficamente e linguisticamente, le Rime di messer Francesco in vita ed in morte di Madonna Laura, seguite dai Trionfi e dalle rime su diversi argomenti. Una stringata ma sufficiente presentazione e poi i versi immortali. In belle condizioni, poche e non rimarchevoli mende.
