Nel 1470 vide la luce a Venezia per i tipi di Vindelino da Spira la prima stampa delle poesie volgari di Francesco Petrarca: i "Rerum vulgarium fragmenta" e i "Triumphi". Fu un evento garantito dal fatto che precedette persino la Commedia di Dante la cui prima stampa uscir� solo nel 1472 tre nel medesimo anno; ma ben dodici furono le stampe del Petrarca tra il 1470 e il 1478. Un esemplare di questo prezioso e oggi rarissimo incunabolo fini nelle mani di Antonio Grifo letterato veneziano rimatore egli stesso e appassionato lettore di Petrarca e di Dante che si applic� in una singolare opera di "commento" dei testi petrarcheschi costituita da fitte postille manoscritte ai versi e da un ampio apparato illustrativo che nella tradizione trecentesca dei codici miniati cercava di dare un'interpretazione figurativa del testo poetico. Il Canzoniere queriniano risulta infatti l'unico testimone della produzione poetica volgare di Petrarca in cui ogni componimento appaia corredato di sue proprie illustrazioni tanto pi� suggestive in quanto opere di un miniatore evidentemente lontano dalle forme stereotipate della tradizione di scuola originalissimo nella rappresentazione figurativa del messaggio poetico petrarchesco. Grazie alla puntuale esegesi "critica" e figurativa del Grifo questo esemplare � diventato un sontuoso "manoscritto" cartaceo in cui il dettato petrarchesco impresso tipograficamente viene corredato di un grandioso apparato di chiose manoscritte e di rappresentazioni figurative che occupano ogni spazio bianco della pagina in una ricchissima decorazione pressoch� continua dalla prima all'ultima facciata. L'opera - mirabile documento della fortuna di Petrarca nel Rinascimento - fu commissionata da o venne destinata in dono a una illustre nobildonna cui si allude nella dedica come � Vostra Alteza � rimasta per� ignota. Come ignoto � rimasto il destino successivo del manufatto che compare agli inizi del Settecento torse in possesso della famiglia bresciana Gagliardi dalla quale sarebbe stato poi trasferito alla Biblioteca Queriniana dove tuttora si trova. Questo straordinario incunabolo � stato ora riprodotto in facsimile onde consentirne una pi� ampia circolazione.
