br. György Lukàcs non è stato soltanto un grande teorico di estetica - o della specificità del fatto estetico, come l'autore preferiva definirlo -, ma è stato uno dei massimi filosofi del Novecento. Assieme all'"Estetica di Heidelberg", questo libro comprende gli scritti, appartenenti all'età giovanile, in cui iniziano a porsi le questioni che Lukàcs svilupperà nei suoi capolavori successivi fino alla messa a fuoco di un'estetica di carattere valutativo. Tra tutti il rapporto di contrapposizione tra l'opera artistica e l'opera scientifica, divisi dall'imprescindibile tema della forma e la considerazione dell'opera d'arte come "forma significativa" specifica, quale concetto-chiave che troverà definitiva sistemazione nella tarda "Estetica".
