Robert Millhauser a prominent citizen of a smalltown Pennsylvania was a man of little consequence -- or would have seemed so to the curious student of human nature if at the age of 53 he had not shot and killed his young wife. The crime in itself was no mystery; the facts were no more easily discoverable and they are narrated exactly as they occurred. There was certainly a mystery concealing the motive and the springs of his action and it is this psychological mystery that John O'Hara has sought to reveal. -- front fold over blurb.
