Full vellum leather spine labels; lightly toned only occasional spots vellum rubbed. A scare early printing from 1755 of Rousseaus Second Discourse; the first edition was published in Amsterdam that same year. Rousseaus loaded text was written in 1754 in response to a prize competition of the Academy of Dijon answering the prompt: What is the origin of inequality among men and is it authorized by natural law Subsequently he composed this discourse from his firmly held beliefs in the rights and dignity of all men. An influential work in Europe and America in it Rousseau concludes that civil society is a trick perpetrated by the powerful on the weak in order to maintain their power or wealth. The work is dedicated to the state of Geneva Rousseaus birthplace. This early edition remains in good form complete and compact and important on many historical grounds.

First Dresden Edition of Rousseaus Second Discourse; a forceful attack on conventional society.
