Top page edges are a faded gold. Kipling's left-facing swastika trademark is opposite the title page. A right-facing swastika is on the gold embossed front cover decoration along with the head of an elephant. Spine has gold lettering and decoration. The dedication page has inked-number 14129 which may have been a library marking however there are no other signs that that was a library book. Interior text pages are tight white and free of any marks or stamps. The poem Let Us Now Praise Famous Men follows the copyright page which is followed by the Contents in Nine Chapters: In Ambush Slaves of the Lamp - Part I An Unsavory Interlude The Impressionists The Moral Reformers A Little Prep The Flag of Their Country The Last Term Slaves of the Lamp Part II. Originally published in serial form in 1897-98 this is the story of three teenagers in a 19th century school for preparing future officers for the British Army. Beetle Stalky and Turkey are the three unruly characters. The story is patterned after United Services College which Kipling himself attended. This book is dedicated to Cormel Price Head-Master United Services College Westward Ho Bideford North Devon 1874-1894. <br/> <br/> Doubleday, Page & Company, Inc, hardcover
