ANALOG YEARBOOK
New York: Baronet Books 1978. 299 pp. Trade paperback format. Light rubbing on the corners with a flat uncreased spine; no interior markings. This anthology contains: Julian by Kate Wilhelm; Too Soon We Grow Old by Spider Robinson; Guzman's Gardner by Stephen Robinett; More Deadly Than the Male by Sam Nicholson; Kingsmeat by Orson Scott Card; Oh Say Can You See by Robert Bloch; The Fifties by Barry Malzberg; Immunity to Cancer by Malcolm Thaler; Science Fiction in the Cinema 1977: Who Needed It by Jeff Rovin; The Awe and the Awful by Gregory Benford; and New Maps of Science Fiction by Williams Sims Bainbridge and Murray M. Dalziel. Analog Science Fiction and Fact is a science fiction magazine that started as Astounding Stories in January 1930. The original publisher went broke in 1933 while the magazine was being edited by Harry Bates. Street and Smith took over then with F. Orlin Tremaine at the helm. At that point the magazine had some major success. In 1937 John W. Campbell took over as editor. And some of the greatest sf writers ever were being published there: Isaac Asimov; A E. van Vogt; Robert A. Heinlein. the list goes on like a Who's Who of early Science Fiction. Campbell had never been fond of the magazine's name but it wasn't until 1960 that he changed the title to Analog Science Fiction & Fact; he had long wanted to get rid of the word Astounding in the title which he felt was too sensational. At about the same time Conde Nast took over the magazine. Campbell remained as editor until his death in 1971. And the magazine is still going strong today. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good. 8vo.
