With no mention of "Second Series" on advertisement page. . Small octavo 6 1/4 x 4 3/16 inches; 158 x 105 mm. 2 x 101 3 blank pp. Original peacock blue cloth over beveled boards. Front cover stamped with gilt publisherís device. Spine ruled and lettered in gilt apostrophe resembles a ì7î priority undetermined. Top edge gilt others uncut. Very minimal rubbing and bumping to corners and spine. Endpapers very slightly toned. Some very minor dust soiling to top margin of a few pages. Overall a very good copy. Stevenson began writing poems for children in 1881 and thirty-nine were collected in Penny Whistles of which only three copies distributed to friends have been located. He added further poems between 1883 and 1885 and issued the book as A Childís Garden of Verses. From Beinecke binding with the apostrophe in the word ìChildísî on the spine resembling a small figure seven and the word ìofî in a small type in the spine lettering no sequence determined.
