Originally published in serial form this volume is a first edition of the work in book form. The Valley of Fear is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel. Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for the creation of the famous literary character Sherlock Holmes who featured in four novels and over fifty short stories. Originally a physician Doyle initially struggled to find a publisher for his first novel. It was not until 1886 that 'A Study in Scarlet' was taken on by War Lock and Co and published in Beeton's Christmas Annual a year later. Doyle's work is still widely considered some of the worlds best crime and detective fiction which is still used as a literary benchmark to this day. Condition: In a full cloth binding. Externally smart. Light sunning to the spine as well as light rubbing. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and also the extremities. Light spotting to the fore edge. Age toning to the front and rear pastedown and endpapers. Minor ink spots to the rear endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with very light age toning throughout.
