Lotte Zweig nouvellement mariée à Stefan Zweig qui avait quitté sa première épouse Friderike donne des nouvelles de leur vie dans la campagne anglaise à Renée Chaine compagne d'un grand ami de son mari Alfred Cortot. Les relations entre Zweig et Cortot pianiste de renom et spécialiste de Chopin sont très peu évoquées par les biographes - la correspondance entre les deux couples et leurs nombreuses rencontres à travers l'Europe témoignent pourtant du lien fort qui les unissait. Zweig qui souhaitait écrire une biographie du compositeur avait d'ailleurs déclaré: «Quand les mains de Cortot n'existeront plus Chopin mourra une seconde fois c'est le seul qui arrive à exprimer la tendresse dans la grandeur». Elle s'adresse à Renée Chaine compagne d'un grand ami de son mari Alfred Cortot pianiste de renom et spécialiste de Chopin. L'installation du couple dans une charmante maison de Bath qui leur rappelle leur ancienne demeure du Kapuzinerberg a rendu leur exil plus doux : ""C'était un grand bonheur pour nous d'avoir cette maison qui nous occupait toutes ces semaines car à cause de cela on oubliait pour des jours entiers les grands évènements."" Bath 27 décembre 1937 178x229cm une feuille. - 43993 - FRENCH VERSION FOLLOWS Lettre autographe signée de la future femme de Stefan Zweig Lotte Altmann adressée à Renée Chaine compagne du pianiste Alfred Cortot. Deux pages sur un feuillet rédigéee à l'encre noire traces de plis. Lotte Altmann secrétaitre de Stefan Zweig que l'écrivain épousa en 1939 donne des nouvelles de leur vie commune à Londres où ils s'étaient rencontrés et vivaient leur relation en secret. La lettre est adressée à Renée Chaine compagne d'un grand ami de Zweig Alfred Cortot pianiste de renom et spécialiste de Chopin. En exil en Angleterre et privés de la musique de Cortot qu'ils avaient l'habitude d'entendre jouer à Paris Lotte confie à sa destinataire : ""nous autres nous sommes heureux d'entendre les disques quand il n'y a pas de possibilité d'entendre le jeu de M. Cortot personnellement"". Alors attelé à la rédaction de sa biographie de Magellan Zweig prévoit un séjour au Portugal où il resta trois semaines avec Lotte entre janvier et février 1938 loins des grisailles de Londres : ""Ici il fait un temps abominable et nous sommes heureux de partir bientôt. Rien n'est encore décidé mais probablement nous irons bientôt au Portugal et plus tard à Paris ou j'espère beaucoup de vous revoir"". Les relations entre Stefan Zweig et Alfred Cortot sont très peu évoquées par les biographes - la correspondance entre le couple autrichien et français leurs nombreuses rencontres à travers l'Europe témoignent pourtant du lien fort qui les unissait. Zweig qui souhaitait écrire une biographie du compositeur avait d'ailleurs déclaré: «Quand les mains de Cortot n'existeront plus Chopin mourra une seconde fois c'est le seul qui arrive à exprimer la tendresse dans la grandeur». Cortot de son côté tenait également Zweig en grande estime: «Les jours où l'on rencontre un Zweig sont à marquer d'une pierre blanche dans la vie des êtres qui ont le respect des idées ou la curiosité de l'intelligence.» lettre du 13 octobre 1937. ""Chère Madame Chaine Merci beaucoup de votre lettre et de vos conseils. J'ai été très surprise d'entendre qu'en général vous ne trouvez pas les disques de M. Cortot satisfaisant sic. Mais naturellement vous connaissez chaque nuance de son jeu et vous pouvez juger de toute petite différence sic de ton tandis que nous autres nous sommes heureux d'entendre les disques quand il n'y a pas de possibilité d'entendre le jeu de M. Cortot personnellement. J'espère que vous avez eu beau temps à Mégève sic et que vous vous êtes bien reposés tous les deux. Ici il fait un temps abominable et nous sommes heureux de partir bientôt. Rien n'est encore décidé mais probablement nous irons bientôt au Portugal et plus tard à Paris ou j'espère beaucoup de vous revoir.
