Unica dedicata a un personaggio ancora in vita si confronta con una figura centrale per lo scrittore austriaco che di Rolland era ammiratore traduttore e amico. Pubblicato nel 1921 e aggiornato nel 1929 il libro ne ripercorre gli anni della formazione ne analizza le opere la sperimentazione letteraria e la crescita della sensibilit� umanitaria. Ma a Zweig interessa soprattutto scrivere dell'enorme influenza intellettuale esercitata da Rolland nel corso della seconda parte della sua vita dopo lo scoppio della Prima Guerra Mondiale e il conferimento del Nobel nel 1915. Al centro dell'appassionato racconto c'� l'ideale che univa i due scrittori il pacifismo radicale che entrambi portarono avanti con coraggio in un mondo sempre pi� diviso dai nazionalismi. Durante la sua permanenza Zweig ebbe sempre ottimi rapporti con i politici locali che lo accolsero come una celebrit� e gli riservarono i funerali di Stato alla sua morte.
