Hon var dotter till feminismikonen Mary Wollstonecraft och anarkismfilosofen William Godwin. Hon hade rymt hemifr�n med poeten Percy Shelley som hon senare gifte sig med. Sommaren 1816 vistades de vid Gen�vesj�n i Schweiz tillsammans med poeten Lord Byron. Men �nnu intressantare �n personligheten Victor Frankenstein �r nog bokens andra huvudgestalt: monstret. H�r skiljer sig romanen markant fr�n filmatiseringarna. Monstret i romanen �r n�mligen inte alls som filmernas inte alls en grymtande rosslande stapplande tr�gt�nkt zombievarelse som g�r med armarna utstr�ckta och trampar s�nder allt i sin v�g och g�r rakt igenom v�ggar utan att m�rka det utan det rakt motsatta: en superm�nniska! Kolossalt stark smidig uth�llig t�l alla slags p�frestningar och dessutom mycket intelligent intellektuell och synnerligen verbal. Han skulle kunna leva ett f�rtr�ffligt liv och bli lycklig och framg�ngsrik och n�jd med sin tillvaro om det inte vore f�r en sak: han passar inte in i den m�nskliga gemenskapen. Han �r f�r det f�rsta oerh�rt ful. Grovhugget sammansatt som han �r av aparta groteska likdelar. Han �r s� fr�nst�tande ful att alla som ser honom ryggar tillbaka i v�mjelse och instinktiv avsky. F�r det andra �r han oformligt stor. Doktor Frankenstein hade n�mligen inte m�jlighet att konstruera en normalstor varelse d� hade sammanfogandet av nervtr�dar och liknande - detaljer blivit f�r sv�rt. Monstrets m�rka �de blir att tvingas driva omkring som en utst�tt och aldrig n�gonstans v�lkomnas bland v�nner. Sj�lv �r han till fullo medveten om vidden av problemet och kan resonera och argumentera inf�r doktor Frankenstein och inf�r l�saren om sitt fruktansv�rda och till synes ol�sliga dilemma. Lika mycket som romanen handlar om vetenskap som g�r �verstyr handlar den allts� om de avvikandes utanf�rskap. Monstret outsidern freaken som ivrigt famlar efter minsta halmstr� som hoppas hitta n�gon som helst variant av gemenskap. Men han har s� ofantligt mycket emot sig utseendet ursprunget hela sin fysiska fr�nst�tande uppenbarelse. N�r konflikterna eskalerar blir romanen dessutom ohyggligt sp�nnande och hur det g�r ska inte avsl�jas h�r i denna v�r kortfattade f�rhandsreklam f�r ny�vers�ttningen. Efter avslutad l�sning har man dock l�tt att f�rst� att 19-�riga Mary Shelleys roman Frankenstein sedan l�nge tillh�r litteraturens od�dliga m�sterverk. paperback
