Dated from Library Hub c1886. A collection of essays and letters by popular author Percy Bysshe Shelley edited with an introductory note by Ernest Rhys. This volume being the former personal copy of Richard Strachey with his bookplate to front pastedown. Part of the Scott Library series published by Walter Scott. Sir Richard Strachey was a British soldier and Indian administrator third son of Edward Strachey and grandson of Sir Henry Strachey. He had ten surviving children with well-known author Jane Strachey a supporter of women's suffrage who led the Mud March of 1907 in London. Among his children was Lytton Strachey popular author and thinker and James Strachey psychoanalyst and biographer of Sigmund Freud. In the original publisher's cloth binding with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Externally smart with slight shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Richard Strachey's bookplate to front pastedown. Inscribed to front free endpaper by a previous owner dated 1932. Internally Firmly bound. Tear to front free endpaper. Pages are bright and clean.
