GRENVILLE Major H.
The Menagerie Hunters; or Fanny Hobart the Animal Queen -- A Story of Wonderful Adventures in the Jungles
New York: Beadle and Adams 1883. Paperback. 4to. Self-cover. 14pp 2pp ads. Illustration. Very good. Tight and nice with some edgewear mainly along top and small chip at top edge of each page not affecting text; vintage " paper strip running down gutter. Nice example of Volume III Number 57 10 January 1883 of the weekly issued "Beadle's Boy's Library of Sport Story and Adventure." Farfetched front wrapper graphic depicts a young Victorian knife-wielding lass attacking the lion crouched before her. "Reads the caption "Slowly but firmly grasping my knife I made one spring and how I did it I can never tell but I buried my knife deep into her eye." Notes Albert Johannsen "Aboard a steamer sailing from Calcutta to Ceylon; various persons relate adventures." Difficult to find these early dime novels or "penny dreadfuls" in such handleable condition. JOHANNSEN I 324. Beadle and Adams paperback
