Partly becuase The History of the League has not been widely available students have generally ignored Dryden's long translation from the French of Loyis Maimbourg. They have focused instead upon the two items which have been reprinted Dryden's dedication to Charles II and his long postscript arguing that the religious wars in the late sixteenth century France offer pertinent lessons for England after six years of plots and crisis.
