RUSSELL Bertrand.
TIENE EL HOMBRE UN FUTURO
149 pp. Enc. en rstica de la editorial. Edit. Aguilar. Madrid 1963.

New York: Simon and Schuster 1962. First Edition. First Edition. Good/No Jacket. First edition. Former library copy - usual marks. No jacket. 1962 Hard Cover. We have more books available by this author!. 128 pp. "What spurs a famous philosopher at the age of 89 to plunge into a political campaign of civil disobedience and go to prison for his beliefs The answer is an urgent concern for the continuance of the human race. In the million years during which man has lived on this planet he must have survived many hazards. Can he hope to survive a nuclear war Here lies the most agonizing question of our era. Refuting the theory that scientists have been the willing tools of governments Russell exposes the hypocrisy of official attitudes to nuclear weapons. The one hope for man he proclaims is to be found in world government. He maps out a reasoned scheme in his this book and details the practical steps we can take towards it today. This moving pronouncement - in its admiration of man's past achievements in the despair engendered by his present plight in its unquenchable concern for those who follow - is no less than Russell's living testament to mankind. Russell Bertrand
My Philosophical Development.
London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd 1959. First edition of this work by the Nobel Prize-winning author in which he summarizes his philosophical beliefs and explains how they changed during his life. Octavo original cloth. Signed by Bertrand Russell on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Uncommon signed. Russell gives an account of his philosophical development. He describes his Hegelian period and includes hitherto unpublished notes for a Hegelian philosophy of science. He deals next with the two-fold revolution involved with his abandonment of idealism and adoption of a mathematical logic founded upon that of Giuseppe Peano. After two chapters on Principia Mathematica 1910-1913 he passes to the problems of perception as dealt with in Our Knowledge of the External World 1914. In a chapter on 'The Impact of Wittgenstein' Russell examines what he now thinks must be accepted and what rejected in that philosopher's work. He notes the changes from earlier theories required by the adoption of William James's view that sensation is not essentially relational and is not per se a form of knowledge. In an explanatory chapter he endeavours to remove misconceptions of and objections to his theories as to the relation of perception to scientific knowledge. George Allen & Unwin Ltd hardcover books
