‎Ce livre inclut en espagnol et français le poème de Pablo Neruda, Tina Modotti ha muerto (1942) paru in Tercera residencia, 1947, ainsi que des lettres de Modotti a Weston, des photos de Weston dans lesquelles pose Tina et bien sûr ses propres photos, dont le grand format, 35 cm.des photographies, des textes et des documents réunis par Riccardo Toffoletti du Comité Tina Modotti à Udine.Tina Modotti (1896-1942), photographe et révolutionnaire, amante de Weston, amie de Frida Kahlo et de Manuel Alvarez Bravo, fit de sa vie une oeuvre d'art dans le Mexique en pleine ébullition. Elle photographie l'art populaire, les inégalités de la société, les portraits des gens célèbres, des paysans et des ouvriers, collabore à El Machete et Mexican Folkways. Ses photos les plus fortes étaient celles qu'elle créait par pur plaisir, des formes sensuelles, élancées, abstraites ou réelles reprenant des symboles progressistes qui allaient influencer largement la photographie de son époque. Issue d'une famille pauvre de Udine dans le nord de l'Italie, Tina Modotti part à l'âge de 17 ans rejoindre son père émigré à San Fransisco. Elle tombe amoureuse d'un jeune peintre et poète qui l'introduit dans les milieux artistiques de Hollywood, l'épouse et joue dans plusieurs films les divas exotiques. En 1920, elle rencontre le grand photographe américain Edward Weston qui est séduit par sa beauté sauvage et sa créativité. A partir de 1925 Tina Modotti entreprend une oeuvre nouvelle et sensuelle qui conjugue les préoccupations formelles, sociales et personnelles. Elle s'inscrit au Parti communiste mexicain, elle défraye la chronique par son activité politique et ses nouvelles amours avant de retourner en Europe et en URSS où elle milite pour le Secours rouge international. Elle partage sa vie avec Vittorio Vidali, membre du Komintem et "révolutionnaire professionnel" d'origine italienne. Avec lui elle se rend en Espagne, participe à la guerre civile et retourne au Mexique où elle meurt à 46 ans, seule, dans le taxi qui la ramène chez elle, la nuit du 5 janvier 1942. Ce livre permet pour la première fois en France d'aborder dans son ensemble l'oeuvre photographique de cette grande artiste et de suivre sa trajectoire à travers des textes et des documents réunis par Riccardo Toffoletti du Comité Tina Modotti à Udine, spécialiste et passionné de l'oeuvre de la photographe : Cet ouvrage ne veut surtout pas être une célébration, ni ne procède d'une démarche d'historicisation.
