Robertson has been made by J. B. McGeachy who was for some years his colleague on the Winnipeg Free Press; and he has prefaced the collection with an appropriate introduction giving the essential facts about Mr. Robertson's career.' Robertson was born in Scotland in 1879. In 1910 he left Scotland with his wife and family to move to Alberta where for a time he farmed 'ploughing virgin land after he had built a shack on it'. He gave up farming and for a while worked as a type-setter in lumber camps on fruit ranches and in 1916 ended up in Winnipeg. He joined the Free Press in 1918 and stayed with the paper until his death in 1936 by when he was assistant editor-in-chief. His opinions were published on the editorial pages for all of his journalistic years and he wrote copiously on politics usually in the column 'The Passing World'. However this book contains not only examples of his columns but other essays about poets Scotland England and adapting to life in a cold climate. <br/><br/>The book shows slight shelf wear else it is in very good cond.
