China ca.1930's. A Chinese porcelain bowl very good open top 16 cm. by 5.3 cm. deep with six hand-painted cobalt- blue nude Chinese women. The bowl has a faint hue of pale green with crackle glaze brown rim skillfully painted. . . . Showing three erotic views inside the bowl and three of the same outside with the character "Fu" wealth painted inside at the bottom. The foot shows the "Da Ming .date seal but clearly this is a later reproduction of that great period and work. A lovely novelty excellent condition with out flaw. The inside shows following views: A: Nude Chinese woman in the bath; b: another nude woman sitting on a mat by a smoking incense censor; c: shows the woman again with a censor and much incense smoke. First edition 1923 limited to 150 copies 34 etchings plus etched title page 4to 11 inches 28 cm half bliue cloth marbled boards leather spine label very funny and erotic engravings with outsized penises and crazy situations with a caption page: 17 of the engravings are fairly tame; the facing engravings make a pun of the original caption and give the same scene from an overly eroticized point of view. Attributed to Leon Courbouleix by Dutel Dutel 1830; sold at Romantic Agony Auction for a total of over 1800 Euros in 2015 in a slightly nicer binding. All etchings mounted on tabs excellent condition laid paper. In fact gives a whole new meaning to laid paper. Does not appear to be in any institutions according to OCLC. The Artist hardcover

n.p. Taiwan 1920. Internally side-stapled with printed wrappers. Chipping creases and stains to covers; damp-stain to first few pages. Good. 5 x 6. 7/8". 52pp. A particularly odd example of an erotic mimeo novel; a sort of erotic confession or coming-of-age story told by a mother formerly known as 'Peach' in the form of a letter to her daughter. It begins: 'My Beloved Nancy although it seems to show shy of affection on your part to write a letter like this from your own mother it requires fortitude of a top kilter that I've prepositioned to give away nakedly my low-down bedrock eventuated in my rosebud days just as you're now one of the season's buds.' This style of writing at first seemed to be a kind of Engrish but its playful and often deliberately strange tone suggested someone playing with style and prosody - a Joycean jape or a cut-up pornographic Gertrude Stein. Closer inspection revealed a line of Chinese characters in the gutter and the numbers 29-5-21 29 May 1921. And we suppose Engrish it is. It may be a bastardized form or rewite of an earlier work; there's mention of a country-house in Scotland and a trip to the Riviera but the action soon gets down to Peach's defilement at the hands of three men plus a flagellation scene. The book is crudely printed via spirit duplication in a dark red ink on brownish paper; the stencil seems to have been gone over by hand giving the text a rough-hewn hand-made quality. One page is redone in block letters. Small illos follow the end of two of the six chapters: that of a sailing ship or Chinese junk and a Model T or similar make auto. Crepe-like paper has been used as an end-paper. An unusual and unique item. unknown

n.p.: No Publisher 1950. Plain orange wrappers. Shelfwear and staining. Internally stitched. Crudely trimmed good only. 4.5x6". 16pp. This is the sort of pornographic booklet that for obvious reasons was published anonymously; possibly in New York but there's really not much to go on. Very likely rewritten or copied from a Victorian or fin de siecle work; it has some of the stylistic hallmarks and given the slim budget this was produced with the book employs two different paper stocks and the premium value of originality it is at least a work of pastiche. Cheaply produced and in unknown quantities by an unknown publisher this is the sort of work that's remarkable in a way for simply having survived; in that sense it truly is a piece of ephemera. It was first published by the German classicist Friedrich Karl Forberg in 1824 in Latin and Greek as a commentary to Antonio Beccadelli's 1394-1471 Hermaphroditus commonly referred to as Antonii Panormitae Hermaphroditus an erotic poem sequence of 1425 in renaissance Latin though it was later also published as a separate work." / "Forberg's work was later also translated into English in 1899 and published by Charles Carrington as De figuris Veneris Manual of classical erotology and again in 1907 by Charles Hirsch and into French German and Spanish. The French edition by Alcide Bonneau was titled Manuel d’érotologie classique. One French edition of 1906 was illustrated by Édouard-Henri Avril which concludes with a list of 95 sexual positions. Most of the editions were restricted to high society or censored; one of the copies edited in France was immediately deposited on the secret shelves of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Another woman is entering the chamber. On the left side of the frame is a bureau with a mirror and a goblet. The lady in bed is watching herself masturbating in the mirror. Painted for Harrington's London by their house artist ca. 1994. Harrington's commissioned the binding repair adding the new spine and the words "FOREDGE PAINTING" at the foot of the spine.
