On présume qu'il est né à Lesbos et qu'il a vécu à l'époque d'Hadrien, au IIe ou IIIe siècle. On lui attribue le roman intitulé Daphnis et Chloé, parfois présenté sous le titre de «Pastorales de Longus».Jacques Amyot (1513-1593) est un prélat français et l'un des traducteurs les plus renommés de la Renaissance. On lui doit de nombreuses traductions notamment de Diodore de Sicile (1554), les Amours pastorales de Daphnis et Chloë de Longus (1559) et les oeuvres morales de Plutarque (1572).‎

‎Un volume in-12°, broché, couverture semi-rigide éditeur de couleur gris vert, avec un lettrage de couleur rouge sur le 1er plat , un dos lisse sans mention et 127 pages (en comprenant un court texte intitulé “RÉMINISCENCES” en fin de volume). Il s’agit de la 3ème édition de ce texte après les deux premières (l’une en 1928, l’autre en en 1947) qui furent pour la première clandestine et saisie dés sa parution, et l’autre (tirée à 199 exemplaire) qui fut elle aussi immédiatement saisie et détruite. La présente édition qui reprend le texte de 1947 sans illustrations, fut limitée à 500 exemplaires. cette édition fut destinée exclusivement aux souscripteurs mais elle fut également condamnée. Ce n’est qu’en 1967, après la mort de Georges BATAILLE, que ce livre, considéré comme un des plus grands textes de la littérature érotique, fut édité sous le nom de son auteur sans que jamais celui-ci ne l’ait officiellement reconnu. TRES BON ETAT.‎
