Couverture crème rempliée imprimée en bleu sur le premier plat. Vignettes coloriées servant de lettrines. Etui et emboîtage de l'éditeur en carton recouvert de papier gris (un peu frotté par endroit). Volume en excellent état, très frais, proche du neuf. A noter une petite tache dans la marge d'un feuillet. Tirage à 325 exemplaires seulement. Celui-ci, 1 des 275 ex. sur grand vélin d'Arches avec les 12 eaux-fortes dans leur état définitif. L'Histoire de Jérôme est extraite de La Nouvelle Justine ou les malheurs de la vertu (chapitre XI) du divin Marquis. "Les premières actions de mon enfance annoncèrent, à ceux qui se connaissent en hommes, que je devais être un des plus grands scélérats qui eût encore existé sur le sol français. J'avais reçu de la nature des inclinations si perverses ; cette nature âpre s'exprimait en moi d'une manière si contraire à tous les principes de la morale, qu'il fallait nécessairement établir, en me voyant, ou que j'étais un monstre né pour déshonorer cette mère commune du genre humain, ou qu'elle avait eu quelque motif en me créant ainsi, puisque sa main seule avait inculqué dans moi le malheureux penchant aux vices infâmes dont je donnais journellement de si frappants exemples. [...]" (extrait du début du texte). Belle illustration libre de SCHEM alias Raoul Serres. Raoul Serres (1881-1971) signait ses œuvres érotiques du pseudonyme Schem. Son illustration à caractère pornographique des œuvres du Marquis de Sade fait scandale en 1936, il adopte alors le pseudonyme « Schem » pour ses dessins licencieux. Les œuvres de cet artiste au trait très assuré et imaginatif sont aujourd'hui très recherchées.
