Album of erotic drawings. France ca. 1815. 4to 26 x 21.5 cm. A matching set of 12 erotic drawings image area about 20 x 16 cm in coloured gouaches. Each is drawn on thick paperboard and mounted on the album leaves. 20th-century red goatskin morocco.
A matching set of 12 skilfully executed erotic gouache drawings in numerous colours each showing a naked or more often partly undressed young man and woman engaged in manual vaginal or oral sex. Each is set in an interior in at least most cases domestic most of them richly furnished. Though the drawings depict several different men and women some of them seem to appear in more than one drawing. One drawing appears to show a home library another includes a case full of books and two others have an open book lying on the floor. Another has the woman sitting on the man's lap before a writing desk with a quill pen in her hand. These may be intended to suggest that the man is the young lady's tutor and they got distracted from their lessons. The clothing suggests couples from fairly high social standing. The clothing architectural decoration furniture clocks lamps vases etc. much of it in Empire Style suggest a date around 1815 perhaps in France.The drawings are in good condition and the binding fine. hardcover

Excellent example of this lovely erotic production; this copy bears number 24 and includes three additional suites of illustrations and unusually an original drawing in colour by Traynier which according to the limitation page was to be supplied only to the first five copies of the edition of 150. The text titled Les Quinze joies de mariage The 15 Joys of Marriage is an anonymous late 14th or early 15th century French satire in prose which presents a picture full of sharpness and humour of the rows and deceits which afflict the married state commiserating the blindness of husbands in everyday concrete situations. Very handsome fully hand-coloured copy of best edition - here in a lovely binding with wide margins and fresh plates showing erotic subjects in a classical Roman manner. Taken from the secret cabinet of the King of Naples some pieces coming from Pompei and Herculaneum. About half the plates depict sculptures in various media while the other half show scenes individual people Gods and couples often with a touch of humour. Published five years earlier under a slightly different title the first edition had only 41 plates without colour. Paris c.1930s. . Six gelatin silver prints 22 x 16 cm. Very good condition and with very good tone. Framed. A series of six nude studies showing the same model posing in the photographer's studio. The style of the photographs which artistically combines high and low art allows to attribute the authorship to the Grundworth studio which is known to have been producing erotic postcards in Paris from the 1890s to the 1930s. Like most of the studios engaged in production of erotic photographs and postcards of the time little is known about it as despite the widespread circulation of these cards their production and distribution was illegal in France hence anonymity was essential. Given the time span and a number of different styles the name is unlikely to represent an individual photographer but more likely a group of photographers who were perhaps better known but wanted to hide their real identities.
