‎Jeder Kupferstich vom Künstler signiert, datiert und handschriftlich betitelt. Der Berliner Maler und Radierer Eddy Smith (d.i. Edmund Richard Max Smith, 1895 Hannover - 1957 Berlin) schuf mit dieser Mappe skurrilsten erotischen Inhalts ein Hauptwerk des Magischen Realismus. Hier verbindet sich hohe künstlerische Qualität mit dämonisch-expressionistischer Erotik, dies findet in der präzisen und schnörkellosen doch gleichsam detailversessenen Kunstform des Kupferstichs seinen Ausdruck, welche mit dieser Arbeit selbst eine überzeugende Modernisierung erfährt. Die Titelgebung "Die Grundlagen des 20. Jahrhunderts" ergibt sich aus dem Titel eines der Kupferstiche. Der eigentliche Titel "10 Kupferstiche" findet sich handschriftlich auf einigen Mappen wie auch die Auflagenhöhe von 200 Exemplaren. Mappe leicht berieben, mit kl. Newer half vellum portfolio with wings. Each engraving signed, dated and titled by hand by the artist. The Berlin painter and etcher Eddy Smith (Edmund Richard Max Smith, 1895 Hannover ? 1957 Berlin)created a major work of Magical Realism with this portfolio of bizarre erotic content. Here, high artistic quality is combined with demonic-expressionist eroticism, which is expressed in the precise and unadorned yet detailed art form of copperplate engraving, which itself undergoes a convincing modernisation with this work. The title " Die Grundlagen des 20. Jahrhunderts" (transl.: The fundamentals of the 20th century) is derived from the title of one of the engravings. The actual title "10 copper engravings" is handwritten on some of the folders, as is the edition size of 200 copies.
