Emery was an actor on the stage screen and tv -especially episodes of "I Love Lucy". Emery was the only husband to Tallulah Bankhead. He died Nov. 16 1964. Steinbeck wrote his remarks on the 17th. Actor Zachary Scott whose remarks were delivered at the funeral service on Nov. 18th in NYC is the only other contribution here: 2pp. This copy has the variant with the tipped-on date of the memorial service Nov. 18 on the title-page. San Francisco CTA Journal 1952-1969 first edition. <br/><br/> These hardcovers are bound volumes being from Vol. 48 through Vol. 65 which cover the reign of its former owner J. Wilson McKenney who was editor of the CTA California Teachers Association Journal from September 1952 until May 1970 he was also publisher of his own "Out West" magazine who also published materials having to do with California history mining deserts and the like through his Wilmac Press the piece by Steinbeck was published in the November 1955 issue page 7 which McKenney later published separately as a broadside limited to just 12 copies in 1959 which is one of the rarest of all Steinbeck items the original article was part of a series the CTA Journal published on famous Californians others included in that series were Herbert Hoover Ralph Bunche Walt Disney Earl Warren and others all of these bound volumes came from the library of McKenney see Goldstone & Payne C127 not recorded by Morrow. The bindings are all at least very good the bound-in issues are fine. hardcover

A complete set including the title card of the lobby cards promoting the 1948 U.S. release of the 1947 film adaptation of Steinbeck's novella. The film first released as LA PERLA was produced in Mexico by Film Asociados Mexico-Americanos in association with �guila Films and was directed by Emilio Fernandez who also collaborated with Steinbeck and Jack Wagner on the screenplay. Master of golden age Mexican cinema Gabriel Figueroa served as cinematographer and won a Golden Globe Award for his work on this film. Steinbeck's conception of THE PEARL as a cinematic vehicle from the start he discussed it as a film with Fernandez as early as 1941 and his active participation in its production make it of particular significance in the field of Steinbeck- related film.
