JOHN STEINBECK - First Limited Edition, FINE BINDING
The Grapes Of Wrath
Franklin USA 1978 This a truly outstanding heirloom quality edition of one of the greatest books of the last century. It has a substantial binding in full leather and was an exclusive Limited Edition in 1978 for the subscribers to the 'GREATEST BOOKS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY' series from this distinguished and much collected publisher. Now scarce and getting scarcer these wonderful books had a specific purpose. They were intended as ultimate editions of those books considered to be worthy of serious collectors. This one is typical of the attention of detail. It is printed on acid free paper; the three text edges are gilded so dust cannot penetrate; the sections are properly sewn not glued. Superlative and beautiful these editions are now predictably most sought after. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng. Limited Edition. Hardcover. As New. JOHN STEINBECK
THE LOG From The SEA OF CORTEZ SIGNED BY AUTHOR

THE LOG From The SEA OF CORTEZ

by JOHN STEINBECK

Published by Heinemann in London 1958.

1st UK Edition. Signed by Author on title page.

This popular account of Steinbeck's days with his "mentor" Ed Ricketts was a best-seller in the day and is still reprinted up to this day. John Steinbeck adored Ricketts and was compelled to write this emotional record of his time spent with the co-author of THE SEA OF CORTEZ and who also inspired Steinbeck to write his novel CANNERY ROW which he published in 1945.

Steinbeck was perhaps the finest American writer ever finding fascination in human beings whose small lives he could paint in words so they became as grand drifting clouds with which the reader becomes naturally involved. In THE PEARL we can feel the vain hopeful dreams of a poor young Mexican man slipping away from him. In OF MICE AND MEN the author captured the tension of a well-meaning crook trying to control his own Frankenstein the gentle simple-minded giant named Lenny whose impulses stray into an innocent kind of destructiveness.

Condition: Very Good. Blue board book covers are clean and smart. While the pages are clean throughout with none turned or torn there is an ink mark to the final page edges which bleeds onto the edge of the final map page and which was probably done by Steinbeck himself as it is in the same kind of black pen ink in which he signed the book. The dust jacket is protected in a mylar covering but shows light wear at the edges and also some light soiling though it is generally still in prresentable condition without any major tears.
Heinemann hardcover
