Contemporary French decorated boards smooth calf spine damaged by biopredation along hinges but not affecting text vellum corner tips sprinkled red edges. Some foxing and staining particularly at the end of the first Dissertation. With ink stamps "Sigillum Principis Palencae" on endleaves. A fascinating volume. The compiler of this curious Sammelband seems to have been fascinated by a number of disturbing topics including operations on cataracts cyanose or the blue malady uterine hemorrhages the anus "contre-nature" lithotomy hysteria vapors apoplexy and sulfuric acids. Illustrated with 4 plates of which two are of medical instruments one is of a shoulder brace and one is too horrible to describe but see illustration. A strange assemblage of horrendous early 19th-century medical studies; of the twenty works bound herein no less than 12 were printed in Monpellier.<br/><br/>CONTENTS:<br/><br/>1. Tartra A. E. Sir John Sinclair inaugurated the British Wool Society at a large sheep-shearing festival held in 1791 at Newhalls Inn, Queensferry.
