Hughes Queries or Choice Cases for Moots Containing Several Points of Laws not Resolved in the Books.
London: George Dawes 1675. First edition. Leather. Very Good. 6" by 3". None. A scarce copy of one of earliest works on cases for moot courts. This title was only printed the once making this a particularly hard title to come by. Bound in early eighteenth century calf. This volume contains an account of 103 cases. The license to print page is on the verso of the first leaf. In a full calf binding. There is some wear to the extremities including some rubbing and some bumping to the corners. The front board has become detached. The rear board is firm.Internally the binding of the text block is tight and firm. The pages are generally bright and clean with some slight age-toning and the occasional mark. There is a copperplate signature to the top of the title page and the front blank endpaper. Overall this volume is in very good condition. Needs some work to the binding which is later anyway. Very Good George Dawes hardcover

Sicilian Vespers - "1282 massacre of the French with which the Sicilians began their revolt against Charles I Angevin king of Naples and Sicily; it precipitated a French-Aragonese struggle for possession of that kingdom. Its name derives from a riot that took place in a church outside Palermo at the hour of vespers on Easter Monday March 30 1282. Peter III of Aragon Charles�s rival for the Neapolitan throne conspired to raise a rebellion against him in Sicily. The rising broke out prematurely when Sicilians incensed by Charles�s oppressive regime killed some insulting French soldiers at vespers in the church of Santo Spirito. The people of Palermo followed suit and massacred 2000 French inhabitants of the city the night of March 30�31. All of Sicily soon revolted and sought help from the Aragonese who landed at Trapani on August 30."The War of the Sicilian Vespers ensued. The Angevins were supported by the papacy the Italian Guelfs and Philip III of France while the Aragonese were helped by the Italian Ghibellines. The son of Peter III acceded to the throne of Aragon as James II and made peace with the papacy France and the Angevins to whom he renounced Sicily by the Treaty of Anagni June 1295. An excellent limited edition catalogue of the collection at Lansdowne House London illustrated with colour plates and from the library of a British socialite. Located to the south of Berkeley Square Lansdown House is what remains of a mansion once occupied by three British Prime Ministers - William Pitt the Younger John Stuart and William Petty - William Waldorf Astor and Harry Gordon Selfridge before its partial demolition. One of the drawing rooms was removed and reinstalled at the Philadeplhia Museum of Art and the Dining Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.A limited edition with seven hundred and fifty copies produced only of which this is No. 105. Illustrated with one hundred and two plates including a handful in colour. Collated complete.Acquired from the library of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie an English socialite and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was featured by Cecil Beaton in 'The Book of Beauty'. Amongst her circle were Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon Coco Chanel Salvador Dali Winston and Clementine Churchill and Nancy Mitford.A smart limited edition relating to the collection of an important mansion let to prominent figures in British society. In a full cloth binding. Externally very smart with just slight wear to the head and tail of the spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages are uncut and with just the odd instance of spotting.
