A picco su una baia della Riviera, tra giardini di calle, violacciocche e acacie, si staglia il castello medievale di San Salvatore. Alla ricerca disperata di sollievo dalle preoccupazioni quotidiane, Mrs Wilkins, Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Fisher e Lady Caroline Dester si lasciano allettare da quel paradiso terrestre. Cullate dalla primavera mediterranea, dai monti ammantati di violette e fiori dal dolce profumo, queste donne abbandonano a poco a poco i formalismi di società e scoprono un'armonia da tutte anelata e tuttavia mai conosciuta. Nel "Giardino delle rose" (1897), il racconto del tutto inedito che arricchisce questa edizione di "Un incantevole aprile", ritroviamo i tipici temi von arnimiani della libertà della donna, della sua insofferenza verso i vincoli parentali e matrimoniali, del desiderio di spazi e momenti «tutti per sé» difficilmente riconosciuti dalla più stretta cerchia familiare. Si racconta qui la storia di Annie, giovane sarta con la grande passione dei fiori, costantemente distratta dalle cure del suo giardino dalle due persone che le sono più vicine: la madre, sempre bisognosa di attenzioni, e il fidanzato William, che su di lei ha precisi progetti: almeno sei figli.

This poem written from the viewpoint of a Buddhist votary examines the life character and philosophy of Buddhism's founder Gautama. The book has deep blue cloth covers with a bright die-stamped gilt circular design on the front panel and bright die-stamped gilt spine lettering. There is light rubbing at the spine tips and corners. The book is tightly bound with no signatures or inscriptions by former owners. The endpapers have a leaf motif. The text pages are clean but with light toning. Several of the author's smaller poems are also included.
