The Iron Land A Narrative
Philadelphia Pennsylvania: Centaur Press 1936. Previous owner's name else Very Good condition. Clean square tight and unmarked. Pages are fresh and crisp probably never read. THE IRON LAND is blank verse that poetically depicts the lives and exploitation of steel mill workers. At the time of the book's release the author was co-editor drama critic and occasional book reviewer for the New York weekly THE NEW MASSES see Walter Rideout 's THE RADICAL NOVEL IN THE UNITED STATES. In the 1930s Stanley Burnshaw's writings focused on social injustice. It was in 1945 that his satiric book-length poem THE REVOLT OF THE CATS IN PARADISE announced his rejection of Marxism. Among Burnshaw's other books are: ANDR SPIRE AND HIS POETRY 1933; THE BRIDGE 1945; THE MODERN HEBREW POEM ITSELF 1965; IN THE TERRIFIED RADIANCE 1972. Burnshaw was Robert Frost's editor in the 1960s and the author of ROBERT FROST HIMSELF 1986.
