Harran, Marilyn J
THE HOLOCAUST CHRONICLE
Publishers Cloth. 4to. 765 pages. 29 cm. Illustrated. First edition. Contains extensive photographs and maps in both color and black and white. The Holocaust Chronicle, written and fact-checked by top scholars, recounts the long, complex, anguishing story of the most terrible crime of the 20th century. A massive, oversized hardcover of more than 750 pages, The Holocaust Chronicle: A History in Words and Pictures is an excitingly unique, not for-profit endeavor that is a personal project of the publisher, Louis Weber, C. E. O. Of Chicago-based Publications International, Ltd. As a book publisher, I am in a unique position to create this ambitious project, Weber says. The son of Polish Jews who settled in America in the 1920s, Weber conceived The Holocaust Chronicle in order to give something back to the Jewish community, and to bring the truth of the Holocaust to as many people as possible. The mission of The Holocaust Chronicle is to report the facts, clearly and free of bias or agenda. Featured are more than 2000 photographs selected after intensive research in the collections of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D. C. And Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, as well as other archives and private collections located around the world. Many of these images are in full color and most are published in book form for the first time. The photographs chronicle the Holocaust in starkly visual terms, capturing victims and perpetrators alike, as well as Allied leaders and the multitude of peripheral figures. Caption-text is detailed, and rich with facts and human interest. The books 3000-item timeline of Holocaust-related events is unprecedented in its scope and ambition. Spanning the years 1000 B. C. To 1999 A. D. , the timeline pinpoints deportations, atrocities, and important developments in the Nazis Final Solution, as well as individual acts of cruelty, compassion, and heroic Jewish resistance. Illustrated chapter-opener essays place the most important years of the Holocaust and its immediate aftermath, 1933-1946, into sharp perspective. Nearly 300 sidebars detail significant people, places, issues, and events. More than 30 full-color, specially commissioned maps show the reader where events took place. The sentiments and hatreds that gave rise to the Holocaust were not confined to the 12 years of Adolf Hitlers Thousand-Year Reich. The books illustrated prologue surveys the antisemitism that was expressed over many centuries in Europe as bloody pogroms, exclusionary laws, and other persecution. The illustrated epilogue documents the long, painful healing process that has lasted for generations and may never be completed. (Publishers description) Subjects: Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) -- Chronology. Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) -- Pictorial works. World War, 1939-1945 -- Chronology. Hart, Mitchell Bryan
JEWS AND RACE: WRITINGS ON IDENTITY AND DIFFERENCE, 1880-1940
Softbound. 8vo. XXXIX, 281 pages. 24 cm. First edition. An Anthology of writings by Jewish thinkers on Jews as a race. Jews were famously the targets of racial thinking in modern times, but they also engaged in it. Many Jews used the methods of racial science to analyze Jewish history and contemporary life. Such discourse was in part apologetic, a response to racial antisemitism; however, it also served other political and ideological needs. Focusing primarily on works written at the height of the racial hygiene and eugenics movements, this diverse anthology shows how Jewish scholars and popular writers in Europe, North America, and Palestine raised fascinating and thorny issues about the nature and history of racial discourse. Designed for class adoption, the volume contains helpful annotations and a contextual introduction by the editor. (Publishers description) . In The Tauber Institute series for the study of European Jewry; The Brandeis library of modern Jewish thought. Subjects: Jews - Identity - History - 19th century. Jews - Identity - History - 20th century. Jews - Social conditions - 19th century. Jews - Social conditions - 20th century. Race - Social aspects. Ethnic groups. Physical anthropology. Light shelf wear to wraps, otherwise fresh and clean. Great condition. (SPEC-36-49)

LAND SETTLEMENT IN ERETZ ISRAEL
First separate edition. Original illustrated paper wrappers with intricate illustration of people building a settlement. 8vo. 7 pages; 23 cm. A Nazi-era first person account of Harzfelds experience as a settler, focusing particularly on newer settlements including in Yavneel, the Beth-Shan Valley, Huleh, and the Galilee. I have lived through the so-called heroic period of Zionism, in the days of the Second Aliyah, when young people, fired with the ideal of building a new social life in Eretz Israel, cast aside the chains of the Galuth for the first time; but never since the days of the Second Aliyah have I seen such a moving force in the people and in the country-this land of ours which from a dream has been transformed into earthly reality! Abraham Harzfeld was a Zionist and Israeli politician who headed the settlement department of the Agricultural Association and was involved in the establishment of new settlements for forty years
. He was known for his habit of bursting into song, sometimes in the middle of his speeches (Wikipedia, 2016) . Includes several black-and-white photographs of the settlements and illustrations on front and back covers. From an Address by Abraham Harzfeld. SUBJECT(S) : Jewish settlements, Palestine, Kibbutzim. OCLC lists only one holding worldwide (National Agr Libr) . Moderate folds with a few unobtrusive marks. Good + condition. Scarce. (zion-11-27)
