HENRI SEROUYA.
La Cabala: Le sue origini, la sua psicologia mistica, la sua metafisica. Traduzione di Mario Monte.
Fine Fine Italian Paperback. Dust wrapper. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Italian. 429, [3] p. La Cabala: Le sue origini, la sua psicologia mistica, la sua metafisica. Traduzione di Mario Monte. First Edition in 1947 in French as 'La Kabbale'.

English & Hebrew. Arranged according to the traditional harmonies by Rose L. Henriques; illustrated by Beatrice Hirschfeld and translated into English to fit the Hebrew tunes by Herbert Loewe; with a foreward by the very Rev. J. H. Hertz, Chief Rabbi. Loewe (1882-1940) was "an English Orientalist. Loewe was born in London, the grandson of Louis Loewe. Henry Bunbury (English Caricaturist, 1750-1811) .
[ENGRAVING] MOSES
18TH Century engraving, measuring approximately 14" x 10, " Publish'd Feb 27, 1799. A British Jew (often generically referred to as Moses) shown on the road to Hackney. As the Sign pointed in the opposite direction is for Isling, this scene may be referring to the to the movement of wealthy Jews, "Moses, " from Isling, a wealthy area in decline in the late 18th Century, to Hackney, to which many prominent Jews were moving at the time (includsing, for example, members of the Montefiore family) . The signpost in the image indicates that both travelers are headed toward Hackney. Stamford Hill [in Hackney] had many eminent Jewish residents, including the Montefiore family. Italian-born Moses Vita Montefiore (died 1789) was living there in 1763. His son Joseph (died 1804) married Rachel Mocatta, and his grandson Abraham Montefiore (died 1824) married Henrietta whose father, the financier Nathan Meyer Rothschild, lived near the modern Colberg Place from 1818 to 1835. The Montefiores' property a little further south was to be transformed by Abraham's grandson, Claude Montefiore, into Montefiore House school. Over 200 years later, Stamford Hill has the largest concentration of Haredi Jews in Europe. (Wikipedia, 2017) . The image is identified in the Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires preserved in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum, by Mary Dorothy George, in vol. 5, as no. 6339 (printed in 1783; this a slightly later imprint from 1799) . She describes the image as depicting A stout, complacent-looking man rides a small horse in profile to the left..." The engraving shows the rotund Jew followed by a smiling Black manservant, in three-cornered hat, also on horseback. A few mild creases, light toning, small tears to outer corner of wide left margin, not coming close to image. Very Good Condition. (PAINT-2-7A)

Herbst Imre; Trosztler Alfréd
AKIK MEGHALTAK ÉS AKIK HARCOLTAK NÉPÜNK BECSÜLETÉÉRT
1st edition. Original Paper Wrappers, 8vo 32 pages. In Hungarian. Title translates as, Those who Died and Fought for the Honor of our People. Heavily illustrated catalog of an exhibit in Budapest, 1946, to illustrate the persecution of the Hungarian Jews during World War II. Printed entirely on glossy paper, this catalog includes 55 photos, facsimiles, and other images from the exhibition, primarily anti-Nazi Hungarian Jewish artwork and posters, but also anti-Semitic posters, death cam photos, and scenes of new life in Palestine. The picture material was collected by the Jewish Agency for Palestine Documentation Department in January 1946 (translated from page 2) . The Foreword notes (translated) that The first anniversary of the liberation of the Budapest ghetto has arrived. It is time to bring to the world the terrible documents of the tragedy of Judaism and put the still unbelievers who turn their heads into thinking; those who do not believe because they do not want to believe. But not only the persuasion of the doubters is the goal of this attempt, but also of recalling over and over again for those who forget quickly. This is the purpose of this sad picture book, with all the cries, complaints and death blows coming from all sides. These pictures are just dull shadows of reality. Subjects: Jews--Persecutions--Hungary--History--20th century. Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) --Hungary--Exhibitions. OCLC: 1022126577. OCLC lists just one copy anywhere (NLI) . Light wear to wrappers, old dampstains to margins, but no images or text affected. Very Rare and important. (HOLO2-139-13U)
