International Refugee Organization
REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL TO THE GENERAL COUNCIL OF THE INTERNATIONAL REFUGEE ORGANIZATION, 1 JULY 1948-30 JUNE 1949
1st edition. Original photographic paper wrappers, 8vo, 87 pages. Includes many photos and graphs. Cover title is International Refugee Organization, 1948-1949. The International Refugee Organization (IRO) was founded on 20 April 1946, and took over the functions of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, which was shut down in 1947. While the handover was originally planned to take place at the beginning of 1947, it did not occur until July 1947. The International Refugee Organization was a temporary organization of the United Nations (UN) , which itself had been founded in 1945, with a mandate to largely finish the UNRRA's work of repatriating or resettling European refugees. It was dissolved in 1952 after resettling about one million refugees. The definition of a refugee at this time was an individual with either a Nansen passport or a Certificate of identity issued by the International Refugee Organization. The Constitution of the International Refugee Organization, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 15 December 1946, specified the agency's field of operations. Controversially, this defined "persons of German ethnic origin" who had been expelled, or were to be expelled from their countries of birth into the postwar Germany, as individuals who would "not be the concern of the Organization. " This excluded from its purview a group that exceeded in number all the other European displaced persons put together. Also, because of disagreements between the Western allies and the Soviet Union, the IRO only worked in areas controlled by Western armies of occupation (Wikipedia 2016) . SUBJECT(S) : Political refugees. World War, 1939-1945 -- Refugees. No copies listed on OCLC Worldcat. Light Wear Very Good Condition. Rare. (holo2-132-6)

Rif. Bibl.: ICCU IT\ICCU\BVEE\012675; Biblioteca digital Memoria de Madrid, B 23924; BHM.Catálogo de incunables y obras s. XVI, 2002, 292.

IRINI SARIOGLU (Translated and Edited).
The Exiled: Erzurum / Askale. The diary of Konstanti N. Kürkçüoglu in the labour Batallions of 1943.
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 180 p. Konstanti N. Kurkcuoglu's diary is a very rare and special diary. This is not only because it is the first time such a testimony covering the twelve months of the labour battalions of 1943 in Turkey is being published, but also because the diary of Konstanti N. Kurkcuoglu describes in a direct manner the circumstances under which dozens of minority citizens who could not pay the tax on capital were obliged to serve in the labour battalions. Konstanti Kurkcuoglu's testimony records this period from the beginning (January 1943) till the end (December 1943). Immediately after the imposition of Varlik tax (November 1942), the business and the house of Konstanti N. Kurkcuoglu are seized by the Turkish state. In January 1943, unable to pay the tax of 200,000 Turkish liras, he is driven into exile, in the eastern part of the country (Erzurum), together with thousands of other Greeks, Armenians and Jews, where he works for a substandard wage trying to pay the exorbitant amount of tax due from him. The capital tax law strictly forbade the right to court appeals. The handwritten diary of Konstanti Kurkcuoglu mainly records the everyday life of the exiled without unnecessary sentimentalities while making clear the insanity of this painful experience.

AVODA divine service: The longing of the heart.= AVODA tanrisal hizmet: Tanrisal hizmet.= Kisufey Halev.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English, Turkish, and Hebrew. 368 p., ills. AVODA divine service: The longing of the heart. AVODA - A deep explanation of the gap that Adam created between God and man, the role of prayer, and prayer's corrective power. Avoda is the thesis written by Ishak Ibrahimzadeh for the degree of Master of Arts in "Jewish Studies" at Gratz College, Philadelphia, 2014. This book is the product of seven years' work and was written originally in English. From the Preface of Avoda: " This book discusses the heart of the Torah and it is an essay on Torah psychology what is traditionally called mussar (the study of ethics or character development). It surveys the assumption made by a number of commentators that prayer rectifies the negative trait of honor seeking. This work is not a technical Kabbalistic discourse. However Torah psychology is certainly grounded in the psychological principles of the Kabbalah, which can be defined in this sense as the study of the relationship between the soul and body, and this work draws freely on this understanding.
