‎HISTADRUT FOTO NEWS: THE ILLUSTRATED PALESTINE MAGAZINE. JANUARY 1948. "DAWN OF A NEW ERA" [WITH COVER PHOTO OF A VICTORIOUS WEITZMANN]‎

‎First edition. Original illustrated blue and white paper wrappers with black-and-white photographs. 4to. 15 pages 28 cm. Important issue from just prior to statehood of this important Zionist photographic periodical, filled with black-and-white photographs, tables, maps, and articles. The Histadrut “was founded in December 1929 in Haifa to look out for the interests of Jewish workers...The Histadrut became one of the most powerful institutions in the state of Israel, a mainstay of the Labour Zionist movement and, aside from being a trade union, its state-building role made it the owner of a number of businesses and factories and, for a time, the largest employer in the country. Until Israel began moving away from a socialist economy, the Histadrut, along with the government, owned most of the economy” (Wikipedia 2017) . “Newspaper headlines report the sensational side of events in Palestine, but rarely the important things that happen daily. The Jewish State is being built by men and women with a single mind and single purpose, men and women of the Histadrut who stick to their task in fields and factories, who reluctantly take the gun in hand to ward off the enemy. HISTADRUT FOTO-NEWS will bring to American Jewry the story of Palestine in its proper perspective. Its heroes will be workers. Its drama will be the life of the pioneers who build not only new physical wonders but social and spiritual patterns that suit the rebirth of an ancient, civilized people. ” SUBJECT(S) : Labor and laboring classes, Israel, Periodicals. ‎FACTS AND FIGURES ABOUT THE "HISTADRUTH HAOVDIM": GENERAL FEDERATION OF JEWISH LABOR WORK IN PALESTINE: ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PALESTINE LABOR CAMPAIGN.‎

‎No Date (ca: 1934) . 1st edition. Original printed paper wrappers, 8vo, [8] pages. 23 cm. Statistics from 1933 are cited, so we presume publication to be 1934. “The Histadruth reulated the immigration, the colonization, a nd teheducation of the worker and seeks a means of peaceful cooperation with the Arab working masses. The Jewish worker is thus identified both with the national renaissance of his peole and with the struggle of the laboring masses for sical freedom and justice…. Today, wehen economic crisis and political reaction are victimizing hundres of thousands of our people, we are fortunate in having an idealistic army of labor dedicated to the construction of a freer and happier future. Labor Palestine presents the only bright spot in an otherwise dark picture. TO the threst of Fascism and persecution our answer must be a strengthened Jewish community, based on the preinciples of labor, equality and social justice” (p2. 2 & [8]) . Use of 2 colors of ink and beautiful period typeface add to the attractiveness of this pamphlet. David Dubinsky is listed as a national Co-Chairman. SUBJECT(S) Labor Zionism. A letter from the chairman of the National Committee to Combat Anti-Semitism to subscribers of the periodical COUNTER ATTACK urging them to sign the attached petition for Congress to adopt Representative Samuel Dickstein’s House Concurrent Resolution 89: “Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring) , That the Congress hereby express itself that anti-Semitism and other forms of hate propaganda directed against racial or religious groups, which arrays creed against creed, and race against race, is a potent weapon in the hands of the enemies of this country and of its institutions; that the spreading of this Hitlerite ideology destroys the unity of this Nation, creates discord among our people, and is a threat to our future peace and security. Whosoever conducts or participates in such propaganda is un-American and is undermining the foundations upon which our Nation was founded, therefore, there can be no place in the lives or thoughts of true Americans for such ideology. ” Also includes a space for donations to help finance the endeavor.
