THE LAST DAYS
Original Cloth. 8vo. 240 pages. 25 cm. First U. S. Edition. Published in conjuction with the film The Last Days. Originally published: London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1999. Profusely illustrated, with an epilogue by Randolph L. Braham. Presented by Steven Spielberg and Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation; with an introduction by David Cesarani; historical consultants, Michael Berenbaum, Randolph Braham. The German plan for annihilation of the Jews-called the 'Final Solution'-set the goal that not a single survivor would be left to bear witness to the events. Fifty years later, Steven Spielberg established Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation to record the testimony of as many survivors as possible. From the ashes of the Holocaust these voices now emerge to share their stories and to represent the nearly six million Jews who did not survive. Survivors and liberators share what they experienced in gripping, firsthand testimony. Archival photographs document history, and powerful color images chronicle the survivors' emotional return to the places of their pasts: from homes unseen for fifty years to the ghettos and concentration camps of their imprisonment. Top scholars have been brought together to share their insights into one of humanity's darkest chapters. These elements are poignantly synthesized in The Last Days as a warning for all mankind. - Publishers Description. Subjects: Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) Jews - Persecutions - Hungary. World War, 1939-1945 - Concentration camps. World War, 1939-1945 - Jews. Concentration camps. Jews. Jews - Persecutions. Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. PROCEEDINGS OF THE BAR OF THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES AND MEETING OF THE COURT IN MEMORY OF ASSOCIATE JUSTICE LOUIS D. BRANDEIS, DECEMBER 21, 1942
Softcover, 8vo, 56 pages, 28 cm. SUBJECT (S) : Biography; Government publication; National government publication. Brandeis (18561941) , was a U. S. Jurist, the first Jew to be appointed to the U. S. Supreme Court. Brandeis was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the youngest of four children of Adolph and Frederika Dembitz Brandeis. Brandeis formed a law partnership in Boston with a former classmate, and by the age of 30 he had achieved financial independence, thanks both to the success of his legal practice and to a deliberately frugal style of living. When Woodrow Wilson was elected president in 1912 on a platform of the New Freedom, he turned to Brandeis for counsel in translating ideas of political and social reform into the framework of legal institutions. In 1916 Wilson nominated Brandeis as a justice of the Supreme Court, precipitating a contest over confirmation in the Senate that lasted more than four months
confirmation was finally voted on June 1, 1916 (Freund in EJ 2007) . Ex-library with usual markings. Light staining to cover. Lightly bumped corners and edges. Good condition. (Sef-18-1)
