Garcia : A Grateful Celebration
New York: Dupree's Diamond News 1995. 103 Pages. Dupree's Diamond News is named after the Jerry Garcia / Robert Hunter song Dupree's Diamond Blues. John Dwork published the DDN from May 1987 to about 1998 usually about four times a year documenting the Deadhead Experience. Statement of Purpose for this Special Edition of DDN from the copyright page -- After Jerry died lots of people rushed to press with a memorial or tribute geared to the masses. We decided to take a little more time to put together a Celebration of memories of Jerry's life from family and friends. We wanted this to be a place where we didn't have to start out with 'Jerry Garcia played guitar for a San Francisco-based rock band.' With that in mind this is a loving presentation by Deadheads for Deadheads. Contents: A Elegy for Jerry A Eulogy for Jerry Garcia Losing Jerry Broken Mirror Missing Jerry Many Small Circles My Friend Jerry Jerry's Gone Just a Few of the Things The Collective Echo of Little Rituals A Lifetime of Inspiration A Certain Connection Message to Garcia We Haven't Left the Planet Yet Dross to Gold Memories of Jerry Don't Tell Me This Town Ain't Got No heart Blackjack Garcia More Than Words Can Tell Blue Prints from the Big Man Keep the Torch Burning Lessons About Life The Rarest of Gifts It's All Too Much My Fondest Memories Honor the Example He Was a Friend of Mine some Gravy and The Only Song of God. Durrell, Lawrence
Clea : roman
Gold octavo; 358 p In French. || Fiction. || Uncommon; only 11 holdings & 81 records in WorldCat. || Lawrence George Durrell (1912 ñ 1990) was an expatriate British novelist, poet, dramatist, and travel writer, though he resisted affiliation with Britain and preferred to be considered cosmopolitan. It has been posthumously suggested that Durrell never had British citizenship, though more accurately, he became defined as a non-patrial in 1968 due to the amendment to the Commonwealth Immigrants Act 1962. Hence, he was denied the right to enter or settle in Britain under new laws and had to apply for a visa for each entry. His most famous work is the tetralogy The Alexandria Quartet. Justine (1957), Balthazar (1958), Mountolive (1958) and Clea (1960) deal with events before and during the Second World War in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. The first three books tell essentially the same story but from different perspectives, a technique Durrell described in his introductory note to Balthazar as "relativistic". Only in the final part, Clea, does the story advance in time and reach a conclusion.
