The works in "Words, Numbers, Lines" centre upon Bilge Friedlaender's rigorous investigation of created forms such as "line" and "square" as expressions of the relationship between humans and nature. The exhibition focuses on a specific period (1971-1983) of Friedlaender's production, researching the infinite possibilities of a line, a torn line, and a square that defies gravity. She produced expansive yet intimate material for investigation. During this decade, even though she did not identify herself as a minimalist, Friedlaender develops a modest visual language utilising rather simple materials and meticulously continues her almost experimental search. She was in constant dialogue with her own work through her writing, questioning herself, and asking philosophical questions that remain compelling, and grant us access to her ideas. Engaging with the universal experiences of gravity, horizon, and perceptions of duality, Friedlaender created a body of work that is even more relevant today.

Prep. by Begüm Akkoyunlu Ersöz et al. Giorgio de Chirico is one of the most extraordinary figures of the 20thcentury, a period marked by consecutive avant-garde movements. During this rich period that brought to fore different forms and modes of expression rather than themes in painting, de Chirico, as distinct from his contemporaries, created a unique metaphysical universe in which he carried the fresh themes he developed and carried to the center of his painting. Following the first metaphysical works he produced between 1910 and 1918, which also served as a source of inspiration for the Surrealists, he gravitated towards a different search with the changing dynamics of the post-World War I period. He was interested in ancient Greek and Roman art and re-interpreted the works of Old masters. He revisited metaphysical painting when he turned 80. He completed his artistic career with the new themes he developed in this area and the canvases he painted with lighter colours compared to his early period. The exhibition catalogue includes writings by the artist and encompassing essays focusing on de Chirico's artistic career and the Metaphysical Art, which he invented, as well as exemplifying his various periods ranging from his earliest works to his last ones.

The exhibition "Fenerler" (Lighthouses), which is composed of the artwork by caricaturist Haslet Soyöz, is currently on display at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum in Istanbul. Soyöz, who celebrates his 40th year as an artist, is exhibiting 30 of his oil paintings on canvas until May 15. The paintings featured at the exhibition are the depictions of lighthouses around Turkey. The artist previously worked with the museum for his exhibitions "Cennetin Gemileri" (Ships of Heaven) in 2003, "Hava, Kara Deniz Tasitlari" (Air, Land and Sea Vehicles) in 2007 and "Delkos'tan Karaburun's" (From Delkos to Karaburun) in 2013. "Lighthouses" is the fourth solo exhibition of Soyöz at the same museum. Soyöz focuses on lighthouses as the true friends, a light of hope and an alarm bell, for seafaring man. "Works by the Dutch painter Marius Bauer from the collections of important museums in America and Europe, especially of the Rijkmuseum in Amsterdam, are being presented to art lovers during the four-month exhibition. Bauer made several journeys through Turkey and was a great admirer of Turkish culture. With drawings, etchings, water colors, oil paintings and letters, the exhibition takes the visitor on Bauer's travels through Turkey. Bauer arrived for the first time in Istanbul by boat in 1888. He disembarked and was immediately captivated by the life, the culture and the industriousness that he encountered there. Narrow streets, markets, bazaars and intimate sightlines, full of people engaged in everyday activities: playing music, trading wares, or on their way to or from the mosque. Occasionally he would catch a glimpse of the Sultan and his retinue. It can be concluded, from the letters that Bauer wrote in Turkey to family and friends, that he undertook long walks every day with his sketchbook under his arm. This resulted in a large number of sketches and drawings that formed the starting point of a great quantity of work when he returned to the Netherlands. Speaking at the opening of the exhibition on May 15, Sabanci University Head of the Board of Trustees, Güler Sabanci said, 'Like all artists enchanted by the east, Bauer was a traveler. He undertook his first voyage, during which he would fall under the spell of the east, in 1888 when he was 21. He sailed to Ottoman Turkey, stopped at Izmir and then made his way to Istanbul. We are overjoyed to have opportunity to bring Bauer's works back to the country he could never forget.".
